When Tristar previewed this film to an early audience in 1991, the crowd ended up feasting on each other's flesh by the third act. Realizing that no one would ever see the ending of the film (having been eaten), it was re-shot and re-cut to the now familiar family adventure we know and love today. Steven Spielberg was pissed, and rightly so; this new version was not the blood-soaked nightmare he had always wanted to create, but was never given the chance.
