How Good Is 15 Year Old Bryce James Actually?

Bryce James is different now in high school, LeBron might want to stay in the NBA till he gets there.

Remember this kid. That’s Bryce James, LeBron’s second son. **Wait, he’s 6’ 6” and in high school?** **RDCworld was right**…But how good is he actually?

Now usually Bryce has been overshadowed by his older brother Bronny and while Bronny is a 4 star recruit, now 17, the one that LeBron said he wants to play with, you’ve seen the videos circulating. And in fact, Bryce might be the better prospect.

So taking a look at Bryce James scouting report, the man is supposed to be a lethal shooter. LeBron said that Bryce is the best shooter in the household. I mean if you look at these highlights 4 years ago, almost all of them are catch and shoot 3s.

In the Las Vegas Big Time matchup with some other high school talent, Bryce came off the bench and honestly, didn’t look good. Missed shots, a bit awkward footwork. But everyone is allowed bad games here and there.

He got game and was gearing up to be a guard. He seemed to be above average speed, above average strength already. However, things changed. He was 5’ 7” in 2020, then 6’ 4” at the end of 2021. Now he’s 6’ 6” and possibly continuing to grow as he’s developing skills.

One thing that is apparent is that Bryce is lanky as heck**.** We don’t have an exact wingspan measurement but from this photo. we can see that his arms go down a little above the knees similar to LeBron. LeBron has a 7 foot wingspan so Bryce may have a longer wingspan than his height…6 foot 9 wingspan at 15…(*he’s a demigod)*

In fact body type wise, both Bron and Bryce look similar, but while Bryce may have the size, touch, and shooting ability, he doesn’t have the explosiveness. It’s impossible to ignore the comparisons to LeBron himself and while everyone does develop differently, LeBron at the same age was jumping out the gym although shorter at 6’ 3”. Bryce isn’t as quick or agile. It more seems like he’s getting adjusted to his new height and frame. Nothing new for bigger high school players slated to make the NBA, but he’s already ahead of his dad size wise.

We also don’t see that point playmaking ability just yet. At the current moment, he’s more of stretch forward center. But since he was developing his abilities as a guard, that will come with time.

Yet if we compare Bryce to other NBA players in their freshman year , it’s really apparent that Bryce doesn’t have the same smoothness to his game. By the time these players were freshman, they already had the ability to breakdown their defender to an extent, drive by, and make a play. Not just in transition but in the half court setting and currently, Bryce James in a half court setting is more of an off-ball threat.

But if you’re familiar with Bronny, you can see the progression. From barely dunking to throwing down, shutting down trash talkers and hitting side step threes. Bryce is about to be a sophomore finally playing legit competition on varsity. This Bronny is skilled, confident in his shot and to me the better shooter.

If you combined Bronny and Bryce, you would get a better shooting LeBron but individually each one is missing pieces of their father **and that’s ok because they are their own people, their own players.** Bronny is shaping up to be an elite guard with some athleticism and deep NBA range. Bryce is the better shooter supposedly, size*,* knack for defense, we’re seeing an NBA prospect.
