In this video titled EU4 1.35 Japan Guide - They Added SAMURAI To The STRONGEST ARMY In EU4 I make an EU4 Guide for Japan starting as Oda for Europa Universalis 4 1.35 Domination. With EU4 1.35 Domination releasing the meta and the starting moves for many nations on the map has changed, so of course new and up to date guides are needed. This EU4 Japan starting moves guide or EU4 Japan starting moves tutorial will ensure that you get a great start for yourself playing as the nation of Japan. This guide covers the opening moves, diplomacy, estates, alliances, subjects, missions, national ideas, and more! Japan is one of the best nations for blobbing, having a massive army that is also extremely powerful, being extremely rich, dominating trade and more! After watching this EU4 Japan guide you will ensure a great start for yourself, and you will have an easy and fun campaign.

I know it would probably be too similar to Oda, but would love to see a guide for the Japanese pirates

The "restore our color" decision is there to restore the tag of Japan to its default color, which is that paler red color. This is only possible to take since you formed Japan as Oda, one of 15 daimyo that automatically carry across their color to Japan when forming it (other daimyo that do this include: Tokugawa, Shimazu, Takeda, So, etc.). This is all to say, the Japan you formed already had Oda map color, but you reverted it to its default pale red (a downright criminal offense).

One thing I never see but find is super useful is the Draft Warships estate decision. Free Heavy Ship off the bat? Naval domination which makes sieges that much easier. Also to secure the naval crossings. That one Heavy can take any two, maybe three nations in the early game for the Sengoku period.

ODA has very good ideas for military. so i didnt expand till 1460, but made 4 show strength wars for the mana points. So Renaissance was very fast to spawn and very cheap (1 ducat) because Oda is an OPM. After that i expanded, like you should, but not without 2 more show strength wars :-D Japan is perfect for show strength wars. And these mana points are needed.

I like to race for California and Mexico vs the Spanish. Leads to a tense 1500s, but alot of fun.

Why would you brun down the Tripitaka Koreana? It literally gives you free institution spread, so you dont have to dev the your institutions

Even tough samurai infantary is OP, dont use samurai specials units. They cost the double of manpower when they die.
p.e. If one lose 5k in a batle, the manpower decreases by 10k. Its pretty huge and you can run out manpower pretty quickly.

Please stop saying that paying off high interest loans early saves you money. It's just not true. You pay the full remaining interest whenever you pay off a loan early.

thank you for the guide! It helped a lot, but i still kept on losing. I fought Korea but their army was about 40K and i ended up spiraling into debt. Right after a jurichen tribe declared war, ming exploded and Wu declared on me for okinawa. I ran out of manpower, and I ran out of money and my navy was super weak after the Korean war so i had to quit that run. Honestly its very infuriating and it is really annoying to start over. Oirat was super strong too and had a strong army along with everyone allying each other screwing me over.

So it didn’t matter how much I improved with Ashikaga, they made me sudoku twice. They even sudoku’d my first ruler, then sent me a nice gift, then sudoku’d his replacement. I felt like I was going to have to pour more admin points into stability than coring

New challenge idea, as any nation you want, conquer all the states in which the capitals of all other nations in the game are (example, Thrace for Constantinople/Istanbul or ile-de France for Paris).
