I played this whole album for my Dad as he was passing away in his coma from covid 19. Prince was his favorite musician, My Dad played his music for me when I was 5 and we loved it so i hope to God that I sent my Dad off in peace. I love you so much Dad, It kills me writing this...

This dude actually saved me from doing the unthinkable to myself when I had not one single person I could trust to talk to. I followed him from day one in the late 70's and never stopped. So many dark years as a wild ass teen and a Rude Boy to the heart because of Prince. I still remember me and my best friend dressing up like Prince and getting all the ladies. Man, we were so hated on by other men being called everything under the Sun. But we already knew it was pure envy and jealousy that they couldn't be cool enough to be themselves and separate themselves from the norm. That's what the Purple King taught me that it was ok to be different regardless of what others thought of you. Now I'm successful, a father of 4 beautiful kids and a grandfather. When I was a teen, I couldn't see myself passing 21. Thank you Prince R. Nelson for helping me become the better me. You are the true G.O.A.T. and will forever be missed like one of my family members... P.S. Tell Michael it's ok to be number two....lmao!

My high school had 8th graders in the same building as 9-12 grades. So i rode the bus with upper classmen. I was VERY naive and innocent. Still remember stepping on the bus that first day and 1999 was playing. Not knowing who Prince was or what a profound impact he would have on me forever. Even now as a 50 yr old woman i'm transfixed by him and moved by his musical/entertaining/lyrical genius. His music transcends any sludge released today. His brilliance will never be matched.

This was my entry drug to becoming a purple music junkie.
Any time I get sad that he's gone, I just remind myself that out of the entire time that humans have existed, I was lucky enough to be around at the same time as Prince.

PRINCE - He was the Mozart of our time. When I first heard the song "1999" in September 1982 when I was a college freshman, I thought: "He's done it again." That is, made an absolutely AWESOME SONG.

My favorite album by Prince. "Automatic" is my favorite Prince song. This is great beyond my wildest imagination. It sounded futuristic in 1982 and it still does today. I love it.

I’m a life long musician (drums) First heard Prince in 1975.. I learned composition from studying his work and was studying classical music at the time preparing to go to Conservatory.. fast forward to today I now produce music after travel to countless countries and every state in this country, When I mourn I listen to Prince, when I’m inspired I listen to Prince, and when I want fresh sonic ideas I listen to Prince.. The artist community took a major L with his loss.. One of the only artist that high level musicians like myself could enjoy in concert.. Master musician composer arranger, producer.. Damn.. Tonight I am mourning..

To say “1999” is a monumental masterpiece is an understatement. Prince revealed himself as the true heir and would soon be crowned the new King of Funk. Throughout the ‘80’s and ‘90’s the song “1999” was a MUST play at parties…it never got old…and when 1999 rolled around…well, how could you NOT play it to welcome the new millennium. Here's a little bit of history about the single “1999”. It is the only song to chart 4 times by the same artist on the Billboard 100 (Not counting Christmas songs). “1999” originally got to #44 on the Billboard Charts in 1982. It was re-released and peaked at #12 in 1983. It was re-released again in 1999 and got as high as #40. And when Prince died in 2016, it charted once again getting to #27. RIP you may be the King of Funk but you'll always be Prince to me.

I remember when my brother came home with this album. We all were dancing and jamming to this for years to come. I miss my brother and Prince. 😞

Walked into the living room and 1999 was on TV. I just stood there mesmerized by Prince and the Revolution. My family looked at me and joked that I was in love with him because I just stood there, transfixed. All these years later, I don't go long without playing his music. 💜💜💜

A genius on the level of a Mozart. What a total badass. He could do it all. Nobody else even comes close.

in 1982 I escaped into the future with this album, I was 14 and hating the small town I lived in, couldn't wait to grow up and escape, Prince music always represented the future to me, freedom, adult-hood, living life to the fullest

I loved Prince from the first moment I heard him! I had his Controversy poster taped to my bedroom wall and I kissed it every morning before leaving home and I kissed it every time I returned home.

I remember my dad standing in line to buy me a ticket to his sold out 1999 concert. It sold out the first night (Saturday), but because he was a sweetheart and the demand was so high for him in Birmingham, AL a second night, he held another sold out concert the next night (Sunday)! I felt like he heard my cry and made that decision just for me. This amazingly talented, creative genius will live forever through his music and in my heart!!!

This album was a masterpiece but it was not his first or his last!!! RIH Prince, my boyfriend in my mind and heart!!! I love you!!!

I was introduced to the Controversy album by my babysitter and so when the 1999 album came out I was already the world's biggest middle school-aged Prince fan. I got a lion in my pocket mama...and baby he's ready to roar... was just my favorite line! Prince simply rocked us down to the ground...lucky to have grown up in an era where Prince was realizing his musical genius.
