Girl those are not friends. Don’t ever call them that again.

Those aren't friends. Those are toxic people. You deserve better, girl.

As a moderate democrat, I can confidently say you were dealing with some immature teenage girls and immature teenagers are not exclusively democrats or republican.

Friends don't isolate, humiliate, or embarrass. Insecure, toxic people do.

They weren't your friends to begin with. That's the test, your true friends will stick with you during the tough times.

Meanwhile at UCSB we’d just hand you a red cup and start talking shit about classes like normal university students.

Friends: claim Brett is racist

Also friends: precede to judge Brett because she’s white and from the south.

Me: 🤦🏾‍♂️

Friends are few... those weren't friends merely acquaintances. Keep being you!

I moved from Maryland to Los Angeles when I was a kid. I had a similar experience. I was so glad when we moved away 2 years later. The "loving and accepting" left is a lie.

The alienation was real, but getting better. And it made you stronger. Thank you for not letting it break you.

"we're on the moral high ground here, so it's fine if we treat you like sh*t" literal cult behavior. It sucks to experience that, and I'm glad Brett has found a place where she's appreciated.

Calling those your friends is a big mistake. I really love that you are always straight forward with everything. You have a right to speak your mind without those people putting a label on you. 😘

I had the EXACT SAME experience at college. I grew up in a part of the state that’s known for being very conservative and filled with “hicks”. I came to college to meet 2 girls who seemed to be very like me. After knowing them for a year and rooming with them we starting talking ab politics. They were liberal and I was conservative. I didn’t mind the difference & didnt think much of it. But one night we were sitting in the hallway talking about our beliefs ab controversial topics. It ended with me being so scared and shaking while 3 of my roommates were yelling at me calling me all sorts if names… after they always called me racist, homophobic, fatphobic etc…. Any phobic they could think of. When that night when we were in the hallway talking all I did was state my beliefs simply as put, “ I don’t think abortion is right” and “I don’t agree w/ all the transgender ideology”. I wanted a civil conversation but what I got was SHUT UP by any of my reasons immediately dismissed. And from then on they barely talked to me and would text eachother about how “racist & homophobic I was from supporting trump. At one point going in MY room and throwing my trump hat on the ground. After that I started noticing a trend about nowadays kids who are democratic… They think their way is THE ONLY WAY. & trust me I always have civil conversations about politics but it seems young american democrats need some work on that

Mate if I knew people that treated me like that they ain’t friends. They’re just people I know. I’ll always stick with the friends who’ll never leave my back.

Shes very polite using the word "friend" to describe those people.

I experienced this a job. I worked for Home Depot when I was 17. This Home Depot was on a predominantly black side of town and because I was originally from Baton Rouge but then/now living in Ohio I was called all sorts of things. Keep in mind this was in 2011 long before we got to the craziness we have now. I treat folks the way they treat me, regardless of skin color.
