"I welcome the new music!" *uses original trilogy ost for background*

Hey Teal, I found a little something that may be useful when you do wrench-only! When you reach Quartu, there's a part where you can make it on top of one of those platforms above the conveyor belts that spit out warbots. Then you can jump to a higher platform instead of going around! This is not only a shortcut, but it also bypasses the loading trigger for the group of enemies that are on that platform!

Great vid teal! I love the game too, but I was really disappointed as to how short it is. From what Insomniac was saying, I thought there'd be a handful of new planets, along with all of the originals, but instead we got 1-2 new locations and 5+ less planets from the original. Maybe I'm just butt-hurt for not getting to see iconic locations like Oltanis, Gemlik Moonbase or Eudora in PS4 style. Other than that I really love the game and look forward to more Ratchet and Clank videos from you!

I wish the music was more memorable and I wish there was more content in the Insomniac Museum. I also wish Drek's character wasn't reduced to something so...nonthreatening. I don't mean the plot twist, but just that he wasn't really menacing at all. Maybe it was his new voice, but I'm not sure.

Good review, i loved the game and i agree with you about the skill points, but i have to say that there are things that they should have put it in the game, and theres no excuse not too, first is the pokitaru underwater gameplay area, it was huge like gaspar, but theres hardly any collectibles or even some easterggs, no original Ratchet skin(also i prefer skins than head helmet), they couldv add more holocards about the other R&C games.

To be honest I found the lack of an arena to a fresh thing. Every mainline Ratchet game since the second 1 has had an arena (minus Quest for Booty, if you even count that), with very little change or improvements to them (cycling weapons, wrench only, poisonous gas, kill X number if enemies in a certain amount of time etc. And with Deadlocked being primarily arena focused, i don't feel there needs to be one in every game. The reason I think we have differing opinions on this is because of how we look at the game. You see it as a celebration of everything great about the series, while I'm mostly judging it as if it were a new Game. neither perspective is inherently better than the other, its just an interesting difference I observed.

Good review. I feel like you're a bit too kind to the game though :)
Here's my review based on the following criteria: graphics, level design, story and bonus content. Oh, and **TONS OF SPOILERS**.

**Graphics**: The game looks beautiful. The thing I like the most is how metallic the bolts look like and the impressive amount of things on screen at once. Ratchet and Clank has always been a very colorful series, but the original R&C game was a bit darker than your average, with many unwelcoming environments. This reboot fixes that. The only detail I would complain about is the facial animations. During in-engine cutscenes, characters that aren't talking often use their static animation while looking completely straight, and when they talk their lips aren't quite in synch with their voice. This is something that annoys me a lot in modern games - the difference in animation quality between pre-rendered custscenes and small talk is just too big. I may be harsh, but it's the small details like that that remind you this is a video game. For that reason and other minor graphical glitches (floating enemies, invisible boxes), I give this category an 8/10.

**Gameplay**: This reboot keeps some levels almost entirely unchanged and reorganizes others. Novalis, Aridia and Kerwan really brought back nostalgic memories. Yet where change was needed because the original level design wasn't very good, changes were made. The most frustrating segments from the original game have been completely removed (I'm talking to you, Umbris and Orxon). No need to bring back bad memories. The Clank sections, which were somewhat tedious in the original, have been redesigned and now feature much more interesting puzzles. However, there's one thing that definitely is lacking from the game. The gadgets have been seriously downgraded and the levels that made the best use out of them, removed. The swingshot controls are much less fluid than in the first game, partly due to the fact that you can't manually equip it, and I often found myself falling for no reason. The hydrodisplacer has been reduced to a door-opener, while in the original game there were many more puzzles based around it (Umbris, Hoven, Veldin, etc). The hydropack is also available from the start, but the two swimming races have been removed. The hologuise comes back but only for a small mission that doesn't feel like tense infiltration because you are forced to fight waves of enemies to proceed. Giant clank is also gone - although I don't feel like this is a very bad thing. Don't get me wrong, the level design is good and the new levels play nice, but many of the parts that made the original R&C so good were taken away. This is also what explains why the game is so short. And so, I give this category a 7.5/10.

**Story**: Much less to say about this point - they changed history, so of course it will annoyed the purists, but since I'm used to super-hero reboots it didn't shock me. The humor is there and they made Ratchet a much more likeable character than in the original game. He's not constantly hitting on clank. Seeing all those characters and even references to other games was heartwarming and I think the plot twists were great. Sure, it's not as involving as say, A Crack in Time, but it's good. I do feel like certain moments were extremely rushed though, especially the transition between Ratchet on Veldin and then Clank on Quartu, the moment where Ratchet leaves the rangers after Quark's treason only to immediately join back after a talk with Clank, and the ending. That's probably due to the fact that they took most scenes from the movie. This category scores 8/10.

**Bonus content and replay value**: The lack of skill points is a detail considering there are trophies and the golt bolts unlock bonuses. However, the game shows very little replay value, and I was able to finish everything within a couple days. Sure, I can play the same game over and over until all my weapons are fully upgraded, but that's all I've got left. The Insomniac Museum was somewhat of a false hope too, but I guess they didn't have much to put in since it's a reboot and not a new game. The card collection system was an interesting idea, but in the end I didn't actively look for cards and I completed the collection mostly from killing enemies. They were just collectibles that you could afford missing. Okay, enough about the length of the game, what else. The fact that the bouncer is a pre-order only deal feels like a cheap shot. Even more so because if you don't have it, it leaves obvious holes in your inventory and card collection screen. I'm also slightly saddened by the lack of first-person mode, but few R&C have included it. There are some issues with wall-jumps in lock-strafe mode too. I had to change my settings to go past some of them. The hoverboard races lack a quick-restart button. You can only save one game, which is a major downgrade from any game in the franchise.

**French translation**: I used the play the game in French as a kid, but since then I've played all the games in the series in English as well. A Crack In Time made me vomit with its horrible dub (multiple VAs for the same characters, so Clank changes voice between sentences), so I've been playing the games in English since and I get to judge the translation from French youtube videos. Some jokes were lost but cleverly replaced in the translation of this game, but there are obvious cases of bad translation, like disordered adjectives and (the worst) discontinuity errors. Some iconic weapons and even previous game titles in the Card Collection were wrongly translated.

Overall I give this game a 7.5/10 for being fun, but not reaching the potential I had hoped for.

(In my mind though, a 6/10 is a game barely worth playing, a 7/10 is a good but not great game, an 8/10 is a game you talk about with all your friends, a 9/10 is a game you finish 20 times and a 10/10 game is a game that could not have been better. Kingdom Hearts 2 is a 9.5/10 for me.)

I did Tweet out to Insomniac Games saying it's a shame there are no Skill Points and they told me that the Trophies pretty much replaced the Skill Points, which is fair, at least we get some sort of reward for doing stuff. I also hope that they don't make a reboot of Ratchet 2 imo. I say this because, this one is more of a spin-off reboot of the first to tie in with the movie (another movie after this one would be great tbh though as long as they make it good), but I'd like to see more of the story from where Nexus left off. That's just my opinion though :)

I didn't even grow up with the first game. Rather, the second and third. Yet, the story still disappoints. The attempt to use the movie cutscenes as the video cutscenes didn't work, and the cutscenes they did make themselves are stale and boring. Definitely didn't feel like a love letter in that aspect. Sorry Teal.

Sony has reached into its fridge and pulled out something brilliant.

Just play the originals. Its just better. Gameplay on the first one is meh but the cutscenes are smart and witty and basically rewards. And the second and third games are just huge improvements. But this may be pretty and play ok but the cutscenes are lifeless and the ones that do have life are ripped out of the movie this is just a unfulfilling game in my opinion. Play this for the graphics if your a fan but the original is just a more full experience.
