Interesting choices! I always automatically think of travel and food writing as being the funniest nonfiction (outside of straight comedy and comedian memoirs, of course), and I love that you bypassed those styles of humour almost completely here! :)

Would love to hear Herzog narrate the DFW essay

I read parts of Confederates in the Attic in college, and I remember being shocked at how strict the reenactors were about being period-accurate with regard to their clothes, food, etc. I’d love to go back and read the whole thing.

Just ordered Fargo Rock City for my husband's Christmas present. He grew up listening to Iron Maiden in rural alberta, so he might relate...

David Foster Wallace is “totally pretentious”? Well I guess he’s right up my alley! 🤣🤣

Well, only read Hunter T & Klosterman (2 or 3 of his ... they all runtogether). But this is a good lead as I think I'm going to need more humor in 2019 ... & 2020, OMG. Bring on the funny ones! Have you done a video about the funniest books you've read of any sort? Just read The Fan Man (fiction) by William Kotzwinkle & the humor did me good. I'm going to track down some of these ... I'm going only use them medicinally, tho. Gotta find Cellini ... good fun!

It does seem as though so many non fiction books talked about are dark and depressing so it was nice to see the lighter side of the genre. I remember Bill Bryson making me laugh in the bath while reading Notes from a Small Island but I’m not sure if you have to be British to truly appreciate it. I think travel books are often an area where humor is a big part of it, I guess David Foster Wallace’s essay on cruising- the ship kind- is an example of that.
