Scientists studying the melting Greenland ice sheet say dramatic sea level rises are inevitable, even if we stop burning fossil fuels.
Last year saw record-breaking natural disasters, but a new UN report says many could have had their impacts reduced.
What does all this mean for attempts to deal with climate change?

Presenter: Nick Clark

Guests:

Yarrow Axford - Associate Professor of Earth and Planetary Sciences, Northwestern University.
Zita Sebesvari - Lead Author of the United Nations University ‘Interconnected Disaster Risks’ Report.
Sharon George - Senior Lecturer in Environment and Sustainability, Keele University.

The pressure has always been to ignore the side effects of development and to pretend that industry propaganda alone can counteract climate effects. Here we see the weakness caused by industry being too powerful in politics. The endless and impossible rosy optimism of past models begins to fade now in the cruel light of day.

The ongoing loss of arctic sea ice and melting of the permafrost methane releases are beyond their tipping points. Sorry, but all of the Greenland ice will be gone in time.
We are toast.

Do trees shade the earth ?
Dose good soil absorb rain falls and prevent flooding ?
Do trees work to clean the air ?
Are trees a good source of "renewable" energy ?

Just as soon as the rich and big business get all the money they want.... how much is that? Depends on how many humans they want to carry to serve them in their world, as slaves, of course.

3.3 mm per year is about 12" per CENTURY!!!!
We have plenty of time to adapt.

We should harvest and transport the ice to drought areas.

Oh no, what can we do? If trillionaires don't care, why should we?

Albeit BIG lakes, water in dry areas is not perhaps the best approach, dry areas of earth need to have some water source. Apart from that the sea levels rising is a serious area of concern. Water retention, water disbursement/distribution, to rain accumulation and geographical environmental conditions. May GOD's guidance be upon the people of the earth, the water experts, community development experts, seeking solutions, real solutions.

Nobody talking about methane in permafrost and sea floor bed being liberated relentlessly, that could lead to a change in atmosphere and ELE...

..this is almost a joke now that no one is taking this seriously..nobody talks about it or anything..or sometimes people will be having a conversation day in a restaurant and someone will try to drown them out..
..if we're committed to almost 5% of the Greenland ice sheet .now that's ice water in your veins ..so if this lag goes into turbo mode since no one's doing anything right now..in ten years that number can go to 40%..why not .??..!!

Allies should cooperate and focus efforts on one another, the global population is too much anyways, some countries are useless, dysfunctional, and actively problematic adversaries... let them fend for themselves.

..oh yeah at this rate..by 2030 I can see a completely different scenario..we've already had species collapse..now we're seeing societal collapse ..
..w this lag..we could go up 1 or 2° a year..esp once the turbo kicks in..if that's the case..
..wealthy nations..what about wealthy individuals ..you know 50 million could go a long way for some societies ..

..we are soo doomed..it's not even funny..even the climately insulated will have heatwaves and droughts that could occur by 2030..there is no way to stop it..
