I'm a Malaysian who worked in Singapore for several years - Now I've chosen to come back and work in Malaysia. Totally agree with all the views here. There are some things better in Singapore, and others - better in Malaysia. End of day, depends on what stage of life you're in, what your situation is and what your goals in life are. A very personal question, to each his own...

I'm Singaporean and have been working in Malaysia for five years with a salary of 4000 RM as a degree holder. Over time, I've felt increasingly like I've been wasting my efforts here as costs rise and services become more inaccessible, alongside the growing presence of immigrants with diverse ways of speaking. Recognizing Singapore's widespread use of English and its better fit for communication, I've come to appreciate it more and miss it as my true home. Consequently, I've decided to return to Singapore for work, where I feel I truly belong. I now view Malaysia as best suited for a temporary stay, especially as the concept of "home" feels increasingly transient, akin to a hotel or Airbnb. Additionally, I've noticed that many Malaysians start their own businesses and become bosses, but these ventures don't always endure in the long run.

Weekday work in Singapore, weekend relax in Malaysia, best of both worlds.

I am 56 years old Singaporean. Able to choose not to work anytime from now. My wife and me prefer to stay in Singapore for convenience.❤

I think for the quality of life I would say Singapore. To me safety, convenient, near gardens, clean wet market, activity for retirement are very important. I use to think that living in Malaysia is very chilled, but turn out I chilled better in Singapore environment. But don't get me wrong, I like Malaysia just that I prefers the quality provided in Singapore.

Quality of life also depends on how old one is. As a senior citizen in Singapore, I appreciate that: (1) The public housing is reasonably economical. (2) My home is near to the MRT, which allows me to move around easily and cheaply, (2) The polyclinic and hospital is nearby and health care is economical. (3) The environment is clean, green, safe, and with access to beaches, parks, , gardens and an abundance of shopping and entertainment facilities. (4) Economical Food Courts are available and easily reachable. (5) International holiday travel is convenient and relatively economical (6) Community Centers cater to many kinds of recreational and health care needs. (7) Access to Power, Water, Gas, Television, Telephone and Internet utilities are efficient. (8) and so on and so forth., At the twilight years of my life, why would I want to retire somewhere else?

Generally, early stages of life, definitely Singapore 🇸🇬

When you are older or later stages, Malaysia are much better 🇲🇾, unless you reach super millionaire level.

now the game has changed. really smart people can get over 10k USD a month remote job from SG and live in KL/Bangkok and really ball/can reinvest back to market and compound wealth even more. These are the real new winners of the global workplace

The affordability ratio or ratio of Hdb flat price to Household yearly income in Singapore,
is 5 which is near the lowest in whole world, which means Hdb flat price relative to household income is very affordable,
and yet some young Singapore people keep grumbling and wanting the ratio to drop to even lower .
In fact from year 2011 to year 2021, Hbd flat price remain stagnant or was going down slightly for 10 years,
causing virtually all Hdb flat owners to have huge financial losses for those 10 years,
and this was caused by the more than 10 years of non stop Singapore gov cooling measures,
and the very huge financial losses suffered by all Hdb flat owners for those 10 years ,
was due to bank interest rate cost +loss of interest in cpf as cpf money was used up to buy flat+ inflation causing loss when flat price remain unchanged for 10 years while inflation surged up.

Personally I just find it funny that Malaysians say Singaporeans kiasu and uses "kiasu" as a derogatory term. As a Singaporean, I'm proud that we're kiasu.
Kiasuism created the current Singapore that became first world country in a short 50 years after it was kicked out by Malaysia despite the lack of land and natural resources.

People choose with their feet. I have met lots of Malaysians who become Singapore citizens after working in SG and have a family. I know of very few Singaporeans who migrated to Malaysia and gain citizenship there. Yes, work there, live there as expatiates but after some years return to Singapore. Or live in Johor as retirees renting a house.

Singapore perhaps is a victim of its own success. When things go smoothly, the locals start to look inwards and find nitty gritty faults. It doesn't help that this group of people are the internet warriors too. That's why they call the rest the silent majority. It takes those living abroad to see the wider picture and realize that compared to most elsewhere, S'pore is actually doing pretty ok.

Which is better? The answer is simple. The various international rankings show that m'sia is way behind s'pore in many areas. So, all m'sians must unite to make m'sia less inferior. 👍👍

Upon independence Sg is worse off than Msia. By 1978, in a short span of 16 yrs Sg progressed so well that China’s Deng Xiao Ping visited Sg went back & told China people to learn from Sg & do better. LKY told Deng that China with its population & huge pool of talents will surpass Sg in 30 yrs. Which they did and showcase to the world thru 2008 Beijing Olympics. If Msia had done the same as China its progress & development for the past 60 yrs will well surpass Sg. Hence the big gap between Sg & Msia.

the primary difference in infrastructure between KL and SG is actually because
SG designed their city using Transit Oriented Development - pedestrian convenience is the priority
KL is not designed at all. It is a city built around cars, not people, and everything that is built prioritising developer profits, not quality of life
