Thanks, Jill Wise for explaining how important it is to realize the warning sings of dealing with a toxic situation ultimatums are a problem in any relationship its time to move on and find an Escape plan that works its so difficult for some people that get trapped in Relationships because of financial reasons and a place to live. Looking back my initial response was always pretty much correct but I didn't understand what followed them hearing the truth.
Narcissistic rage muddying the waters demonstrating aggression veiled threats general gaslighting crazy making flip the script throw some accusations and wallah!
You get the same dissonance invalidation and continued confusion. Absolute insanity!

Omg yes! He told me, when I left him the first time, I started talking to someone, when he forced his way back into my life. He told me I better not ever think of getting another boyfriend, that he was the only boyfriend I better ever have or, it's not like he's never had to use his gun and bury someone.... Smfh

They mean it absolutely. Don’t get carried away thinking you’ll succeed by standing up to them. Cut your losses and get outta there. I didn’t complain publicly. In hindsight, I could have blocked some damage by grabbing public opinion before he did.

Exactly! That’s routine. That’s how they maintain control over their victims by threatening them with dire consequences including “destroying them”, getting them homeless on the streets, taking away their children or abandoning the children (whichever terrifies the victim more) etc. The victim feels paralyzed, like a deer caught in headlights, and remains frozen in inaction sometimes for decades (till
they become aware of narcissism).
