I had back pain after long climbs. During a bike fit for a new bike, it turned out that putting my handlebar 3cm lower would solve the problem and it did. Handlebar is now 14 cm lower than saddle...a position that is not for everyone.

I usually do 30 mile rides with my Emonda and I'm usually fine for the first 20 but I feel lower back pain for the last 10. I'm gonna start working on my flexibility.

The saddle tilted up seems to cause back pain too. I believe the cause of that is a posterior pelvic tilt to reduce pressure from the front of the saddle when reaching the handlebars. Thoughts?

Further to cause #3, I wonder if improper cleat position would cause imbalance and result in back pain?As a back pain sufferer on the bike, you've given me more possible solutions. My quest continues for a pain free bike ride. Thank you.

low back pain could be related to saddle positioning? like setback and height? because I tried some positions on stem/handlebar and it didn't solve 100%, also when I moved my saddle forward it gave a relief. I can feel it when apply a bit more power, mostly on climbs.Thanks for sharing all this knowledge.

Great info, however I'm not sure I buy into that 2nd one (spinal compression). That's basically sitting, which we can do for hours quite comfortably.
I'm sure the next cause on your pareto chart should be something akin to the asymmetry that you mention later on, and a few commenters point out in different forms. E.g. compensation for knee, quad or foot pain on one side, insufficiently tilted pelvis, seat issues, leg length, tight psoas on one side, twisted lower lumbar, flat back, SI joint dysfunction, etc.

My sit bone area used to hurt so bad after two or so hours of riding that the tension from the pain would find itself in my lower back as well: excruciating. Saddle change made all the difference. I ride a b17 and use no chamois cream. I have no pretense of being a racer. I just like to ride a lot.

Great video! I never had back pain when I ride. However yesterday I did my first 100 miles ride (160 km) . This morning I woke up with pain in my lower back. Is this likely due to bike fit or just expected normal pain after a long ride?

have you had someone in your work who came to you with a problem with the lower part of the spine, i.e. sciatica, and was it possible to ride a road bike with that problem, and if so, how did you solve it
