I actually liked the VA monitor much more overall. Much better black levels which is key for image quality in games and especially movies. As for colors, the IPS just looked like it had a "cool" tint while the VA was more on the "warm" side which I personally prefer as it's less straining on the eyes.

Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you.

For the most part, contrast looks identical in the gameplay footage due to the auto exposure of the camera and having them side-by-side, the camera is basically looking for a middle ground between both monitors. But that shot @1:34 gets the chef's kiss! I haven't seen as good a comparison of VA and IPS yet on YouTube, so thank you! Edit: It's not a critique on your method, since I can't think of a better way to easily shoot this than with auto exposure unless you shoot in log gamma and color correct later, which could be quite time-consuming. But that would be an interesting exercise. Another way would be to shoot them separately so the auto exposure would adapt to the screens independently, but then gameplay can't really be synced. It would have to be an in-game cinematic or something you can easily sync later.

I was torn for days now between more expensive IPS and less expensive MVA monitor. From what I've learned from your video, I'd love to have VA more than IPS. These colors might not be as natural as they are in real life but they are much nicer than those on IPS.

VA looks way better. Better contrast leads to better detail and better colors in the end. If you want the vibrancy of IPS just play with the saturation settings on your VA panel. HDR essentially maximizes contract, on a VA you're getting that sort of effect and detail (not getting HDR but getting the premise of it leading to a better image than IPS).

I prefer the colors from the IPS panel, but ffs, the IPS Glow is annoying like, the fact that you can't get true blacks throw me off so much

I think they both look fine, but the bleed and bad blacks really turn me off. I think I would go with VA for an overall better experience.

The VA panel is much better, has better color rendering and contrast. It's closer to reality.

The VA has way more detail and depth because of the higher contrast ratio I think .. I got a 3D effect with the VA panel. I think watching movies on the VA panel would be awesome too. Great video!

when you compare you should compare the same resolution...

The main thing I notice is the colours. The right one has a much stronger yellow, greys are yellowish (not good) but greens are more vivid. I like that the left one has stronger reds, greys look much better but greens look washed out. I doubt this is down to the panel technology?

The blacks on the VA panal makes it look like the monitor is not even turned on.. impressive.

I don't know which one I like better!! They both look good!

People don't seem to realize that you can change color temperature. Of course they will still look different but you can make ips warmer and va cooler. I assume that this was with factory settings which are usually inaccurate.

I prefer ips panel for the colors but va panel has obvious better black uniformity and contrast

Out of the box, that BenQ's colors look more correct to me. Maybe the LG needed better calibration. Oh wait, we all view this with different monitors, so others may be seeing the LG to have better color. For sure, the VA wins on blacks.

I've been back and forth between these two type of panels, and lately I was more on the IPS side even though I don't play FPS or AAA games, but now I'm convinced that VA is for my playstyle. The black smearing is irrelevant in the type of games I like, plus I heard that better and newer VA monitors have reduced response times considerably. Thank you very much!

Love this vid, I am looking at the BenQ 32" 4K EW3270U and I got turned off when I saw 'VA' as I wanted an IPS.
This video convinced me that VA is actually pretty good with BenQ. Many thanks.

When you record both at once (from distance) the VA panel wins, in all games. But at the beginning of the video, when the camera is near the panel, the IPS colors look much better. 0:54

3:23 That shot right there is why I prefer IPS. The colours are more vivid.
