Technophiles: "Cybernetics, chips in the brain, and an integrated internet of things will be so cool."
Someone who works in tech: "I have a shotgun in case the printer beeps unexpectedly."

That moment when you realize that over half of the stuff that Alex jones got made fun of for has become accepted reality.

"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."

The scientists are not taking the time asking themselves, "should we" instead of "why not" lol! This is insane.

I remember reading a book called Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson. One of the future tech creations in the book is a 'cyber guard dog' for lack of a better term. A dog that has been enhanced so that it recognizes unauthorized entrants from authorized entrants, and it runs at something like more than 70 miles per hour (I don't remember the exact speed). It spends it's life inside a nitrogen cooled 'doghouse', chasing cyber bones and cats and living the VR equivalent of dog heaven. And when an intruder is detected, it hunts them down. Like a dog brained cruise missile with metal teeth.

I’ll just go with what nature gave me for brains. It might not be much, but it seems to work.

You best start believing in cyberpunk dystopias.

Just 1 brain microchip to flatten the curve.

I used to love the idea of brain implants. Now its the stuff nightmares are made out of for me.

Societies tend towards feudalism and ours is no different. In a world full of “agency absorbers” such as corporations and governments, how anyone could trust such technology in the hands of those who have clearly indicated they’ll do anything to take your agency is beyond me. A device that interfaces with the mind in a high fidelity manner and will almost definitely gave either an AI component to the mechanism, or a centralised component, I can’t imagine anything any better at absorbing agency.

As a man who recently found out that my cybernetic implants meant to help control my epilepsy that the software never worked and i have just been getting shocked for the last 5 years for no reason i am getting this thing removed and i will die totally human.

Billy boy gates would want these to become mandatory for everyone, so long as he had a monopoly to make them.

"How do we know this wouldn't be used to put signals into our brain rather than just read signals from our brain?"
Because we said so. Who would do such a thing? Stop being paranoid.

Conspiracy theorists aren’t paranoid, just ahead of the curve. Alex Jones was right. About every single thing.

It's not that i think microchips can't be used to expand the functionality of the human brain, its that i don't think it'll land in that direction

I’m always for the idea of augmented human body modifications, however-

*its best not to be the beta tester*

Once companies implant technology in employee's bodies, there will be a proprietary claim on the employee's body. The employee might have to agree to have the technology removed by the company free from liability for damages, there might be claims over the right to monitor employees off the job to see that they aren't misusing the technology, etc. etc.

If Elon wants to be the first Fabricator General of the Mechanicus with volunteers, he can go right ahead. I think a selling point for me would being able to control exactly when and for how long I can sleep. I just need a guarantee that I won’t be held responsible for people seeing thoughts that put them into psych-wards because I got some pretty nasty stuff up there.

The argument of “either we join machines or get replaced by them” echos back throughout all of history. Replace machines with “the mongols” and you can see that very well. The difference here is, that this foreign entity being discussed at the moment is not a foreign nation or army that we have no control over, but instead is being created by us in real time. Makes the entire dynamic incredibly unique.
