Meet Ann, a stroke survivor paralyzed since 2005, who has found a voice again.

Through an AI brain implant developed by @ucsfneurosurgery and Chang Lab, she can express some words and sentences using synthesized speech and a digital avatar.

Tiny electrodes implanted on the brain's surface decode signals linked to Ann's speech attempts. Using custom-built algorithms, the system recognizes phonemes, the building blocks of speech, enabling Ann to form words and sentences.

Ann hopes that the system will one day help paralyzed people work again. "They'll be able to rejoin the world and make their own contributions to society," says Ann.

what is the differences of your tech against fnirs and eeg? i have master in computer engineering and i have worked for med school for couple thesis, developed some medical devices my own with doctors. because of my undeveloped country i only watch these devices in admiration :) i like to learn about, and i am gonna start that with checking your company website. Also getting approvals for that will be hard in near future. Class 4

I work in the medical field and I think people should stop judging this innovation as “evil”. This is brilliant actually, Imagine being able to know what the patient would like to say. What the patient wanted to do for the day, where the pain is. I’m sorry but this is really helpful tool especially for paraplegic and for post stroke patients, Imagine if this was your family member. I would do anything just to be able to converse well with a loved one
