‘Climate time bomb ticking’: UN chief says carbon emissions must be urgently cut

A United Nations agency has issued a grave warning to global leaders that climate action is urgently needed now. The UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) said in a report published March 20, 2023, such moves must happen before temperatures rise 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7°F) above pre-industrial levels. UN Chief Antonio Guterres urged developed countries to commit to the promise of the Paris Accord and reach carbon neutrality by 2040.
