Steel wool WILL NOT scratch glass. I repeat, steel wool WILL NOT scratch glass. You should be using fine grade #0000 steel wool. This grade of steel wool allows for deep cleaning in the pores of glass but has more of a polishing quality to it. You can follow up with a polish, then a coating, sealant, or wax to protect your hard work. #0000 steel wool can also be used for polshing dull chrome. Other aggressive cleaning tools used for glass include magic erasers, bronze wool, and/or 3D final finishing pads (the green scouring pads found at grocery, dollar, and big box stores.) I'm a detailer since 1994 and #0000 steel wool has helped me get great results on some high end beautiful vehicles. If you don't believe me seek out professional window cleaners and ask what they use for deep cleaning or look up: #0000 steel wool window cleaning on YouTube. If you think this is aggressive, you should research how windshield wiper trails are removed on glass. Hint, it includes sandpaper used on a high speed polisher.

Nice job. It's not often I see a list video with stuff I haven't seen before. I'll use the screw trick for sure.

Excellent information. The screw worked and my windshield didn't get damaged at all! Tried and true my friend. Thank you. Keep 'em coming.

It’s a good idea to wear gloves (like ‘surgical’ gloves for shop use) when handling steel wool to keep the little shards from your skin. Another thing. It rusts very quickly, so if your using it to deter mice around pipes etc. like in this video on one idea, be sure it’s not going to get damp or if you have high humidity that can also give you a nasty ball of rustiness to clean up after it rusts into a blob.

I can tell you from experience, that mice can and will chew steel wool. I recommend flattening a metal can. Then cut into to the center and cut a hole the size of the pipe. Staple this around the pipe and it will keep the mice out.

These hacks are simple and powerful. What I admire more is getting your kid to be hands-on and able to tackle problems. I give myself permission to presume he doesn't sit in front of the idiot tube all day.

Probably not the best idea to pack a water drain with something that rusts.

My Dad used still wool as #5 around holes with pipes and we never had a problem with unwanted guests.

WD40 is a petroleum product, and really should NOT be used on tires.
It is one of the most misused items.

Great hacks!!!! I LOVE steel wool! I use it all the time ILO a Dremel for detail|corner sanding by winding up a loose piece around the end of a drill bit (think cotton candy machine).

Now you mentioned using #0000 wool for the windshield, but really no other grades were mentioned for the other hacks that I was aware of. Does the other hacks in the video use #0000 wool as well? and if you also know which is better for paint removal, polishing chrome? can you use it safely on plastic? can you use it to sand wood if so which grade do you think is best ? and what would be the correct procedures for the best outcome? And one last thing can you polish a vinyl floor with steel wool? if so which grade is better? thank for posting...
