I’ve noticed that my new 1.6 gallon toilet has a bigger flapper than the old toilets. I’m amazed at how well it flushes with very little water because of the increased water pressure from the bigger hole under the flapper.

The space between the seat and rim is important so air can be allowed to enter as water exits. A fat person making a seal would create a vacuum and an incomplete flush, so either they lift up or fart at the right time which pulls air and odors down with the water.

New toilets have 2 flappers keeping water trapped in the rim so it doesn't empty. With only 1.2 gals per flush it's getting hard to have enough velocity to complete a flush and clean bowl. With water trapped in the rim, water velocity is maintained without having the air getting in the way.
