I've done this on more than one occasion and it does work you just have to be patient and wait for a reply. Each letter I've sent, I've gotten a response from. Now it hasn't resulted in a purchase or a long term land lease yet, but I know it will and I have met some really nice people that appreciate how much I love their property. Good luck y'all.
