VIDEO CONCLUSION:
Lowest quoted price via competitor match was $25per tire higher than I could find on Amazon. Haggled mount/balance price at same shop was $26.50per tire. Time quoted to install 4 tires was 1 hour if they weren't busy to a few hours if they were. Either way I was advised to have someone to pick me up/take me home and they would call when it was completed. 10minutes driving to then from and over again is a total of 40minutes driving plus 10minutes each time doing paper work; for a total of 1 hour.

TOTAL SAVINGS AT HOME:
40 minutes to jack up, remove, demount, install, balance and reinstall 2 tires. This time would drop a little for 4 tires to around just over 1 hour (all the tools are already out).
4 tires save $206+tax over going to a tire shop.
$51.50 savings PER TIRE

TIME SAVINGS
I think I can beat it every-time vs waiting at a tire shop or being picked up and dropped back off.

I started doing my own a few years ago, because, when the pros were doing it with pro equipment, often the tires would slowly loose air and go flat. Me, never done it before, using crap equipment, same stuff you got, things worked perfect, no air loss ever. My balancing works fine too, using the HF balancer with original head. I never noticed any vibration. I will always do it myself forever now.

I rather paid a shop than using a friend that way I don't owed him anything.. "Hey can you help me build a deck?"

I haven't graduated to that level yet but I do know the $1000's of dollars I've spent on tools have definitely paid for themselves. Have a great Christmas.

I love your video's, I first saw you with the Impeller Kit for 2 stage snow blowers years ago. Lately ran out of stuff to watch on YouTube and TV. I found your channel again, and have watched them all now. Your way more entertaining and educational than anyone can get from a big time studio out in Hollywood. Hope to see many more videos from you. Am now a subscriber.
Also I modified a Harbor Freight tire changer myself, also built a clone of a No-Mar Bar so I don't scratch my rims. Been changing tires for years with it for myself and friends. I didn't know about buying tires from Amazon though, will check it out. Thanks again for all you do.

I work at a tyre fitting joint and I've gotta admit there's some downsides to this method. Firstly, this is fine for Camry wheels and semi-low profile tyres but if you have a set of low profile run-flat tyres or something that's very soft, you're just asking for a headache. I've seen experienced fitters at my work tear the bead on a proper tyre machine many times so an amateur doing it at home will very likely damage the tyre

Secondly there's balancing and alignment. Without proper equipment you can only be approximate at best. Tyre balancing machines test the balance under fast rotation and give you readings down to the gram. Meanwhile you basically cannot align your wheels without the right equipment. Sure you could get out a tape measure and get your car going kind of strait but you'll likely be wasting a lot of the tyres life from it scrubbing the ground. Wheel alignment machines are very precise, but they're only as good as the person aligning them too, so keep that in mind.

Finally, if you're working full time you probably don't want to spend a good chunk of your weekend doing this. A good tyre fitter should be able to fit, balance, and mount 4 tyres in under 30 minutes. Alignment should take maybe 20-30. I love DIY automotive work, and if always recommend someone service their own car to their skill level (or get a mechanic friend to help) but a good tyre fitting place will always be worth it in my opinion

At tire shop, add in at least two hours of wait time and another 10 minutes being somewhat polite as they try to sell you ball joints, tie rod ends, shocks or numerous other suspension parts.

Holy crap, great timing, thanks for this video! Just started working on fixing up my dad's old truck, which needs new tires. Have an intro video to the series coming out shortly. Will definitely be attempting this when I get those new tires!

I'd spend an extra ten minutes per wheel cleaning the rim seats before mounting the new tires to ensure that the customer doesn't come back and take up another 45 min. Applying some rubber sealant is also good practice.

My girlfriend brought me puppy for Valentines day 2 years ago. We think he's Australian cow dog and German Sheppard mix. A real caricature . Thanks for the videos

hey Moe, I always learn new stuff from your videos. I did not even know about tire lube. Another solid video, thanks!

I really enjoy watching your videos to see what you will do on your own next. My only observation is that if you cleaned up a bunch of the treasures you have everywhere, you would have more space to work on new tools and projects and save even more money!! The dog is the best sidekick ever in the shop. Mine helps me all the time. Have a great Christmas.

I had one of those tire changers, I bought it for my 4 wheeler tires. I paid a shop one time to swap them. It was a great investment

I bought a HF tire changer a couple of years ago. One of the better buys I made. About 6 month ago I bought a
Hankook Optimo H725 Radial Tire - 235/70R15 102T on Amozon for 56.33. I only bought 1 just to check it out. Turned out to be a great tire. I was on line for a few Walmart items & noticed that they had the same tire for the same price. So I made a BIG mistake, I ordered the rest from them. They came USED. When I called I was told to return them at the store. They would not pick them up with an exchange. After a 90 min I was assured the store would take them & reorder for me, gave me a ticket #. Hour drive 30 min wait on line, was told I could get a credit but I would have to reorder. Gets better, that tires' best price since original purchase 76.00 up to 112.00.
Customer service is an oxymoron. Having the ability to change them yourself not only save you $$$ but also the travel time & wait time at a shop. Plus if you change to snow tires another $$$ saver. 125 saved yields 125 as opposed 125 earned.🤔. I just checked out that balancer on Amazon, how is it holding up? What I like about HF is the 90 day return if any issues to the store without any freight. Stay well, Joe Z

I love the manual tire changer I bought cheeeep years ago. Definitely saved tons of money with that thing. I have one of those balancer's and it seems hit or miss, almost the same success as just not balancing haha. I forgot about your no scratch bar, I'll have to check that out!

I had inconsistent results with my HF bubble balancer too. I ended up adding several ounces of plastic airsoft BB's (1 ounce of airsoft BB's for every 13 pounds of your tire+wheel weight). In my case 3.5 ounces. Been driving on this for several hundred miles at highway speeds and very pleased with results. My tires are 205/55 R16 and dynamic balancing beads are not recommended by the official Dynabeads companies, but I've had good results so will stick with my DIY balance beads at least for now.
I'll break the tire beads in spring and check on the airsoft BB's... Just mentioning this as possible balance method.

Doing it yourself ensures that you know it’s done correctly. I’ve got many years experience on a manual tire changer, but there is a bit of a learning curve for those just starting out. I’m a bit out of practice these days as I don’t do near as many tire changes as I used to.
