This is so nice because the nurses and doctors always made me feel like I was doing something wrong or that my baby was starving.

I was lied to. I was told after 6 weeks, that it was impossible or hard to increase your milk supply. This is not true. Also, my baby is 2 month and never pooped on his own. I take him to the hospital every 2 to 7 day's for help. Hope we can figure this out soon. It's getting ridiculous.

Thank you for this! Been wondering this with my 7 week old.
On our 6 week check up she hadn’t gained enough weight so I have been worried after that. But she always feels satisfied and happy and now that we weighed her she has gained weight as she should ☺️

I like the way you explained this. I got a WIC pamphlet with breast feeding myths and one of them was this question. Well they said. "EVERY mother ALWAYS has enough milk to feed her baby." They did not really elaborate, and I was someone who with my first baby truely didnt have enough milk. Kinda made me feel like I was broken.
Your explanation is a lot more helpful for a concerned parent.

I wish I would've known that with my first. I literally cried because I thought I wasn't producing enough (I was producing just fine)

Oh man I over produced. Like a month before I had my daughter ( emergency C-section 35 weeks) my husband cracked my back for me. You know crossed arms bear hug from behind. The squeeze had my whole front wet to my knees from my right breast! Just absolutely soaked 😂we were stunned. It was hilarious.

3 babies, milk comes in great and rich then tapers down to a "skim" quality. Had to switch to formula at 2 months with the 1st, 4 months, with number 3 and 6 months with number two. Her very pro nursing doctor was not super happy that I nursed her so long because she fell off the growth chart. How do I soup up my milk with number 4?

And sometimes babies do nurse more!! Just because your baby wants to nurse more doesn’t mean they’re starving or that you aren’t making enough milk. The true way to know? Diapers. 3-4 VERY wet diapers and 1-2 poops is typical for a baby. But definitely the wet diapers. Don’t automatically assume a fussy or upset baby is simply starving! And if you’re still worried? See a lactation consultant!

You should recommend speaking to an IBCLC as they have more qualifications with breastfeeding and breastfeeding issues.

I'm pretty sure I produced straight cream. My babies got so fat so fast! And yet I still worried that I wasn't making enough 😂. Momming in the early days is surreal!

Turns out I wasn't producing milk. But lactation sure treated me like I was neglecting my baby cause I asked for a pacifier, thinking it'd help him practice latching/sucking. Guess after 3 days there he didn't hit some magic number of all his weight loss.

Soon as we got home I had my husband make a bottle as I sat in a chair crying in pain while trying to nurse. We gave him supplemental formula cause I didn't know I wasnt producing enough/ any. So he had bottles and nursing until day 5 when we saw the pediatrician. He was now jaundice. She weighed him, saw it dropped, had me nurse and then weighed him again. NO change. She was glad I had been giving a bottle, but had me switch to regular formula so he got the nutrients. She was so kind, and refered me to a lactation at the Children's Hospital who also was so kind.

But lesson learned. Listen to your body, too many others have told me lactation at the hospital not being kind sadly (at least at THAT hospital). Next time I'm standing up for myself more. And will request a hospital pump there to visually see milk is coming out. I have heard of babies not surviving because mom wasn't producing enough. The supplemental formula kept him hydrated but clearly not enough nutrients. He was fine after we switched and we figured out what works best. (I did try nursing then pumping both sides right after while daddy gave a bottle for over a month with no luck).

@mamanursetina could you maybe do a video on clusterfeeding? I know a good deal of mommas who havent even heared of this and loom at me like i am an alien, when i talk about it....
My daughter had this, and my record of non stop breastfeeding was 12 hours - normally was in the evenings for about 4 to 6 hours, this went on for like 8 to 9 weeks, until my husband decided, we should try one bottle of formula around the time she nornally started to clusterfeed - helped a great deal to reduce the feeding time to about 2 hours from 9 to 11 pm and then she slept trough for about 4 to 5 hours finally 😅😅😅 and no, that one bottle didnt lead to selfweaning, we still exclusively breastfeed up until 5 months and in total up to 15 months untill she didnt want to breastfeed anymore😊

NEW MOMS:

It was either introducing formula in the hospital or being discharged without my daughter. Breastfeeding doesn't work for everyone and it's so difficult. Please don't feel pressured either way! Needing to introduce formula does not necessarily mean you cannot still breast feed, or regain the supply you may lose by formula feeding. Fed is best.

With my son, I would pump for HOURS and only get maybe 4oz. I had to supplement with formula. He had a cleft esophagus and he could never latch. I tried everything to produce more milk. I pumped for 6weeks and ended up just giving up. It was so frustrating feeling like a dairy cow 24/7 with little results

What if I don’t want to breastfeed, what would happen? Would they ‘flood’?

I have been wondering about this for a long time, because I want kids, but I have inverted nipples. How would that work with breastfeeding? Are there other alternatives to it?
I've looked it up before, but i'd rather hear from you lol

ALSO!!! If they seem fussy, but you know they have gotten milk, high likelihood of allergies!! My little was allergic to dairy and soy... I cit them from my diet and it helped. Also ended up having reflux... So that qas rough.
