I think this explains my problem. I was trying to wire up an engine stand when I noticed my engine had a slightly different distributor set up that wasn't shown in my diagram. after looking at the car I took the engine out of I notice that it has this module... I'm used to the older engines so this was pretty confusing to me but now I understand. thanks!
