I agree with the other who said the Marshall sounded better. More bite, less stuffy, less compressed, which makes it sound more 3-dimensional and dynamic. But the Katana sounds surprisingly nice if I'm being honest.

The Marshall sounds like the one that rightfully costs twice as much

The Katana Sounds Great for a solid state amp and I'm considering one, I owned a DSL 40c it was awesome loved it but it was to loud for my purpose, in my opinion you can't compare solid state with tube amps . Tube amps are a category of there own.

Great comparison. Big difference. At 100w the Katana still sounds like a practice amp. I think could be tweaked with more mids though.

I have BOSS KTN 100 and crunch channel is almost unusable to me (probably needs a lot micro tweaking ), but this setting here and your tone is acceptably good and usable. Thanks for sharing your settings.

I have the dsl. The katana doesn’t sound bad considering the huge price difference of the Marshall

Owned a Katana Artist before replacing it with a DSL40CR. Was happy enough with the sound of the Katana but it really couldn't compete with the Marshall in my opinion.

I have them both. I enjoy both amps, they are very different so I never bothered to compare them. Its like comparing apples and oranges both are good but each one has its place

I'd never crank the mids all the way up on my Katana. You can get much closer to the Marshall tone with some more judicious settings. Just my $0.02.

The marshall sounds nicer and warmer to me. Thank you.

Marshall wins for a classic crunch tones. I think the Boss always gets dialed in with too much gain. So easy to overdue it. Boss for the money is way more versatile with getting more and heavier tones. Marshall is a winner always for what it does. Boss is a great amp though especially for the low cost.

The Marshall sounds better, but for the price, the Boss is fantastic!

In my opinion the Boss Katana sounds a bit muffled and the bite of the Marshall DSL sounds great and really responds to the lead playing. Marshall. Hands down. I've loved Boss pedals my whole life, but I have to pass on the amp. Great playing! Great video! Rock on!

I have the Boss Katana Artist MKII, and I HAD the Marshall 40CR. The Marshall is worth the money, but there is the cheap cop-out of the digital reverb being near-USELESS. If Marshall had a decent reverb, it could do Fender Blues tones. I had a TSL2000 combo that was better. I had to add a pedalboard to the 40CR just for better reverb. I was able to dial in a far WIDER sound with the Katana Artist mkII than the Marshall. Due to the lousy reverb, (almost DEFECTIVE), I don't regret selling the Marshall. I know, I heard it before from Marshall fan-boyz: "I HATE reverb anyway, long live Marshall!"

Katana head through a Marshall cab gets a lot closer than a 50w combo in my opinion. Pauly’s guitars and gear channel does a great comparison and highlights the advantages of dsl40 vs solid state. You can hear how close it sounds but not the same as tube.

I truly have both katana 100 and the marshall dsl 40 cr both have their great points katana a million tones with the sound studio but a marshall true Tube amp can't be beat Both great when a need presents itself but by comparison obviously the Marshall blows it away..

If you’re playing loud gigging etc get the Marshall tube amp. If you’re playing in your bedroom get the boss katana. It’s that simple.

Marshall is louder and sounds like Marshall. Besides that, both are cool

Why not use them BOTH live in a bi-amping scenario. Use the BOSS Katana for the rhythms & the MARSHALL DSL 40C for the lead guitar solos! Vice-versa too!

Marshall has bigger cabinet, its a deal breaker. And it might be the best combo cabinet. It would be interesting to hear difference trough same cabinet.
