Jesus man, your buddy is a ripping good guitar player. I love it when he shows up. You should interview him formally for a video. Do a jam or something with him. You guys are both ace.

Love the Origin series. Problem is most players these don’t understand the original style Marshall tone. Not everything was high gain JCM 800.

To my ears the Origin just sounds more like that old plexi that really really wants to be pushed into the OD stratosphere. More open, less inhibited and less forgiving in some ways.

Origin all the way! I'm so happy both Marshall and Fender released newer amps shooing for the mid/lower gain classic style. The Fender Bassbreaker (not the tweed 2X12, which is great too) and the Marshall Origin series are great!

The Origin sounds really good, especially with the Strat. There’s a honk in it that really enlivens the Strat. The DSL sounds much more scooped and modern, but it responds very well with the SG. That piercing JCM800 sort of compression.

Either one works for me. I think the DSL could've been dialed in closer to the Origin on some of the humbucker clips. This makes it sound like the DSL only does clean or fuzzy gain, but it'll hit any spot in between too.

To my ears, the Origin matches really well to single coils, really seems to be voiced for that kind of sound. The SG sounds much better through the DSL to me.

I like the Origin more than the DSL.The Origin sounds more vintage and more open.I don't like the V30 speaker.Sounds too harsh for me.

Johan, GREAT video, thank you! Keep in mind these comparisons are showing the amps CRANKED! You’ll need to turn the Origin up loud to get that breakup versus achieving hi-gain bliss at bedroom levels on the DSL40CR.

WOW!! The 40CR sounds sooo much better than the 20, despite both having a 12" speaker, albeit obviously a different one. That being said, the Origin series sounds good, especially with that SG - but I am an unapologetic progeny of the Tony Iommi school of guitar, through and through!

Hey Johann, I just want to thank you for all your great videos and your dedication to rocking the hell out! In my opinion, you do the best amp demos, and I particularly enjoy that you use old and new gear and present them in way that focuses on tone rather than bells and whistles!

Wow... that SG sounds fantastic. I used to have one just like it. Long gone now. Origin is the pick for me. Love the old school sound

The Origin is such a great sounding amp. Cranked it's Brown Tone Heaven.

Man, I love this guy. Not only does he provide great audio while recording his demos, he also provides something that almost ever gear reviewer misses, which is to always have fun while playing. Sweeps, insane picking, and tapping are all great.. But all we really need is for it to feel good.

Holy Hell the SG and the DSL40 are just evil. I love it.

I'm gonna say the DSL is the winner here. It sounds fantastic to my ears.. Great video as always!

Thanks for doing this. I absolutely love the DSL 40 but it’s great to hear the comparison.

The Origin does it for me, I've always thought the DSL had artificially boosted lows and highs, a little hi-fi sounding too me. Both are good, I just prefer the Origin.

As the previous comparison between lower wattage versions, both are good for different shades; the dsl has a more compressed, tighter sound, with pokey lows and highs, very contemporary and useful sounds; the origin nails the vintage marshall sounds, more raw, with rounder highs and lows and good mids, optimum for classic rock and sludgier, stoner sounds; my personal preference is for the origin in this case too, but it's only a matter of taste.

Both sound I’ll take the Origin every time ! More open....more organic !
