Secret Hack - Wiring a UK 13A plug - BS1363

preview_player
Показать описание
There was a time when electrical appliances in the UK were supplied without a 13A plug fitted. So if you purchased a new light, TV or kettle you'd have to wire a suitable 13A UK plug and select the correct fuse.

How to wire a plug was even part of the O-level (GCSE) physics exam.

Not many people have to fit plugs these days - but if you do here's how you should wire one correctly. We connect a Permaplug 13A BS1363 UK 3 pin plug to a 3 core 1.0mm sq flexible cable.

To take it to another level we've used some ferrules to prepare the stranded conductors.

I'm from the United States of America, and I'll probably never need this, but I'm glad I saw it. There's so much ingenuity in your power connectors--even down to the wiring length. They're made in a way so that even if they came loose, the wires would never short and start a flame. Very nice. Thank you!

In America we just strip the wire with our teeth and shove it in the socket

I was today years old when I realised there is a length guide on the card 🤦‍♂️ Learning every day even after 10years 😂

Nice job Gary
Exactly how I was tort by late brother, and at college. It always surprises me how many people don't know how to fit a simple 13amp plug properly. I have even seen one where the conductors had bits of tin kitchen foil wrapped around them.

Great video as always mate.

I will say I do like sim European plugs because when you’re plugging in or unplugging it from the wall it’s not live power going through because there’s plastic so you can’t hurt your self. Ps sorry for my wording this was the best way I could explain this

bruh, the line is the shortest, followed by the neutral, and then the ground (earth). That is so genius!!! UK has great electrical safety.

That little card with instructions on how to cut the different lengths is a genius thing!

I really like the British plug standard. There are so many safety features in it that make a lot of sense. Contrast that with American plugs that fall out of loose sockets and expose live conductors on a very regular basis.

I love how you're always using ferrules!

I find connecting the plug terminations simpler by removing the neutral and earth pins first, then reinserting when it comes to terminate the live pin, , Then give it all one last tweek with all pins inserted, , It helps me reduce the fiddly bits by 2/3rds

I’m sure anyone who owns a £110 crimper would already know how to wire a plug 😂

I was so glad I found these in the hardware store. My dog chewed the plug end off a fan's cord. I was gonna throw the fan away, cuz it wasn't that costly. I googled replacement plug, and voila!!

Those are some funky looking plugs... I'm in the states and it's weird to hear what we call the "ground" you call the "earth" 👍🏻. I enjoy these informative short clips.
