There are time when you want to or even need to splice a rope onto a metal ring. In this video I show how to splice a three strand rope onto a metal ring, using the Crown Knot method which is similar to what you do when Back Splicing a Rope.

Making new mooring ropes for our canal boat here in the UK. Typical...I started with the more difficult eye slice....the crown knot/back splice seems much easier. Thank you for taking the time to share your skills. Your explanation is really clear...l I love the “look at your watch” tip 😀

Have always been interested in being able to tie knots, I find that this gentleman actually makes it fairly easy to follow in spite of trying to keep track of the multiple strands.

Love this tutorial John. Just put some natural hemp line on an 18th century grapnel hook for my Royal Navy presentation in Washington state next month. Hard to believe that I used this splice on my boat last year, however I had to go back and review your great directions again. Maybe I’ll retain it after fifty more! 😂

I’ve been trying for a week to splice rope to chain for my anchor. Just couldn’t get it done from the videos I’ve seen on YouTube. Then I saw this video with the crown knot. Suddenly I’m able to do it now! First of all thank you! But the crown knot only has two wraps on the chain-link instead of three, would this be sufficient for a anchor connection?
