EU citizens have always had to make an ESTA declaration when traveling to the USA, so the method in question, which now applies to Americans traveling to Europe, is the same as the ESTA filled out by Europeans, and the US Esta costs 3x more than the declaration made by the EU.

The USA asked Europeans to the same for years. Its called ESTA.

FOX! It is NOT CALLED A VISA. It is a travel pre-authorization that you can apply for online called ETIAS. (European travel information and authorization system). Much like the Europeans under the Visa Waiver Program of the United States, they are required get an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) - country’s equivalent of the ETIAS in Europe. For which they can apply for online for a small fee.

A visa is a formal permit in a form of a foil granted by the consul or embassy of the country you’re visiting and officially physically embedded on a page of a passport. What Americans need here is a pre-authorization. and you can get this quickly at home from your computer for a small fee. STOP calling it a VISA. It is a misinformation! Ask a consulate officer or an ambassador if you don’t believe me.

Please don't forget it's the same what the US is doing to the Europeans (ESTA) or the Canadians (ETA) doing to the Europeans.

Please stop calling it a visa: it's akin to misinformation. In fact it's simply a travel authorization and takes merely minutes to get. Applying for a visa is a whole different process.

This is not a visa, travel authorization.

EU should definitely increase their ETIAS fee from 7$ to 20$ for USA citizens.

Well, all europeans have to fill in online documents (ESTA) since many years and we don't complain. Foreigners from the rest of the world need VISA agreements from the US Embassies to enter in the USA. And it takes several weeks or months to get them, even for working in the USA. So, there is no exception for the americans the other way around. It is normal nowadays (with all what happens in Europe) that every person traveling to Europe is officially registered. No different privileges. Tracking and safety.

Same as ESTA, it is expensive and looks like the EU is doing the same, so makes kind of sense they said it is a way to control entry. but the ESTA from Europe to the US is very easy and fast so I imagine this one will be the same

This is one step brfore the VAXX digital ID. So if you don't update your VAXX status you can't travel.

honestly it makes no sense for USA, EU, Canada, Japan, SK, Australia, New Zealand, UK to fight over these travel authorizations.
most people who overstay their visas are not from these countries, we should just drop this requirements between our countries.

It’s no different than the ESTA for tourist to come to the US.

ETIAS is delayed until 2025, so we're okay to travel in 2024. Also, they say to get your approval before booking your trip. A lot of people book their trips close to a year in advance before things like hotels and flights get sold out. So, it's really valid for about 2 years.

This is actually a whole lot of fake news, it’s not a visa and l am just going back and forth from New York to Paris without an authorization or whatsoever

It’s tit-for-tat. As an American married to a Frenchman I can tell you that Europeans did not appreciate the US suddenly imposing the hassle, wait and cost (higher than what the EU is asking) for ESTA a few years back either, where there had been no need for it before.

Okay so I’m 19 I live in the U.S. an I have never traveled out the U.S. before but definitely was thinking about it…to travel you’ll need a passport and Visa? Or am I wrong on that I know visa will let you stay long in a country
