We will be delving into the wardrobe of Charles Bartholomew aka "Chuck" Bass of Gossip Girl (2007). We as an audience witness the captivating transformation of his juvenile flamboyance as the Upper East Side’s resident mischievous playboy into a refined and powerful gentleman who means business. In this analysis, we will be breaking down the styling techniques that create his signature look, mental health to image, his style evolution throughout the show mirroring his coming of age, and the way that costume designer Eric Daman redefined what it means to "dress like a man" by challenging conventional norms of menswear.

Through this, you will gain an understanding of how to retain a signature style, put together a fashion-forward to look powerful, and the range that menswear can reach when you understand how to refine pieces together like a true gentleman.

Chuck was so extra but he always managed to own it and it didn't ever look like the clothes were wearing him. A true style icon.

I love Chuck’s fashion and can never understand why more men on tv don’t dress up? As a woman, I love it! Nothing better than when someone actually takes pride in their appearance, as opposed to what’s usually portrayed on tv- old ratty jeans and a big oversized t-shirt. Chuck definitely expressed himself through his clothes, and subconsciously matched himself to Blair. There are so many references to them (even in early season one) matching colors and styles. Fashion was definitely their love language.

Wow this commentary is amazing. I love Chuck's arc and you actually managed to capture it perfectly through fashion. He's also one of the best dressed men I've seen.

such an interesting video! it's making me realize how much of Chuck's look was the male compliment to Blair's- he was the only one who could match her on a sartorial level- one of the many reasons she fell so hard for him. As you mentioned- as a leading male character on tv at the time he was a major anomaly- a straight man who very much cared about his clothing- like the idea was to show men watching that caring about your appearance didn't make you "gay"- as the word was often used at the time in a majorly derogatory way. I think also ed westwick being british gave him a much more european flair- even though the character is American, there's definitely something about a non-american actor's take on it that gives a different vibe.

Great video! I wish more men would be brave enough to dress uniquely and show individuality. Chuck Bass is a style icon

I think most men would benefit from dressing like Chuck Bass honestly. It is a classic style especially after he started wearing the suits. The first season or so was okay but the suited up Chuck? Perfect.

Okay I'm not even 25% into the video yet but I am FLOORED that you tossed up that Oscar Wilde quote because not four hours ago I quoted the SAME EXACT THING to one of my customers at work while discussing the importance of putting your best foot forward in terms of outward presentation!!! I had to pause and make this comment! 😂

As you mentioned Chuck did evolve. The peacock look became a more refined look toward the end of the series. I could better relate at that time. His open tenderness toward Blair became more relatable to me also. I did not agree with so much use of the bow tie throughout the series. It seemed kind of outlandish and unnecessary to me. However, it was his personal style and certainly not mine. How about this; I wore an ivory dinner jacket with shawl collar and pearl buttons to my wedding many years ago. Bogart in the movie Casablanca was my inspiration. I added a pink bow tie and I had white gloves stuffed into the breast pocket as a pocket square. Of course, I like your videos. Well researched. Much success to you. Fun is what we do.

Thanks for making a video about Chuck's style. I'm a man in my thirties and I love style, but I often find it difficult to watch out for new inspiration and icons to look up, whereas women style is much more common in popular culture. For instance, there are much more videos and articles covering Jenny, Blair and Serena's style, whilst there are were few regarding the men in 'Gossip girl'. One thing I would like to mention about the subject is that the three major characters in the show —Chuck, Nate and Dan— had major distinctive styles. As you have mentioned, Chuck is more focused on tailoring and fitting, but in a sharp way, often wearing contrast colors, accessories and plaids that make him stand out; Nate takes inspiration from Iannis Port style and presidential dynasties, combining preppy yet athletic elements, with knitted sweaters, mariner coats and so, in the line of Ralph Lauren; and regarding Dan, his style is more boho, bohemian but masculine; he tries to embody this creative persona, imitating icons as Johnny Depp, with leather bands, vests, silver jewelry and mail bags.

Such a good point about elevating our favourite pieces instead of growing out of them! 💚

I love this video! Chucks style is the best. I would love a video on the fashion from the tv show Revenge. Daniel Grayson’s style is the Hampton’s version of chuck’s & Emily Thorne was so well dressed!
