LOKI: How Timelines Work + Why AVENGERS Aren't on Trial? | Everything EXPLAINED | Marvel BREAKDOWN

Loki’s first episode does a great job setting up the series, but leaves us with a few questions. Mostly: how the heck do timelines work in the MCU, and why aren’t the Avengers on trial? We break down how multiple realities work in the Marvel cinematic universe, and how it will affect Phase 4 movie forward. Why was it okay for Captain America to swipe an infinity stone and live out his life with Peggy, but poor Loki is turned into a prisoner with a job?

My real fave part is how he always finds a nice little segue into the ad.

I’m a fan of the theory that the Loki variants will end up being the heroes. The TVA’s “sacred timeline” logic sounded a bit too much like Loki’s “freedom is the greatest illusion” speech…

The Sacred Timeline is more of a rope than a circle. The timeline has to be a little bit flexible, and among other things, this is why the TVA is needed. The Avengers were supposed to get the space stone, but Loki messed it up. In response, a split was created where they go to the 70s. That split (going to the 70s) now becomes a part of the sacred timeline, and the original timeline a branch that gets clipped, effectively turning it into a loop. It has to exist still, because otherwise there is no impetus for the Avengers to go the 70s-it's a part of Steve and Tony's timeline. The stones then got returned to their proper times, so nothing else splits.

This suggests, that in order to balance itself, the sacred timeline is filled with little recursive loops and rejoining branches that sync back up with it in order to keep the consistency. There would be a loop in 2012 that gets closed when the space stone gets returned, and a branch that splits in 2014 then rejoins the Sacred Timeline in 2023 when Thanos travels forward. There has to be to preserve the timeline that led to these events in the first place.

Tldr: the sacred timeline cannot be 1 linear timeline due to time shenanigans that are allowed.

I know the yo momma joke is coming but it catches me off guard every time😂

Based on the ending of the first episode and how the minute men talked about it I'm pretty sure using time machines recklessly without covering your tracks and clipping the branches you created would also make you a variant

I got to say it, Ryan Arey is just wonderful to watch. He has humility and understands the viewers. When he narrates or explains, he has something that other Youtubers who pun and one line will never have, A soul.

10:59 it looks like he is talking with Natasha's soul trapped on vorimir

Woah. Now I’m convinced the TVA will be destroyed by the end of the season and that will lead us down the path to Spiderverse, Multiverse of Madness and Secret Wars.

I would like to see the explanation for how the different versions of Lokis that cause problems exist to begin with if there's supposed to only be one timeline.

What about the 2014 timeline, where Thanos's entire army just doesn't exist anymore? How's the TVA supposed to deal with that?

Everyone thinks that Thanos wanted to kill half the people but no guys, he just had way too much paperwork and wouldn't settle for cheap paperweights!

To point out Deadpool has Cables Time Machine, so Deadpool is variant since he still has that Time Machine.

Man... Now I'm really excited for Loki and how the events are gonna play out at end of this series. This is gonna be HUGE.

Y'know "clipping the branches" (putting the Infinity Stones back where they're "supposed" to be) doesn't mean severe damage isn't done. Look at the alternate-2014....sure Thanos & his entire army are dead, but Gamora isn't there...does this mean there's a good chance that Ego takes over the Universe...unless he never learns about Star-Lord cuz they never battle Ronan which is how he found out about him. IDK...it seems like "Loki" is making the already complicated time travel even MORE complicated.

I just noticed this. 6:49 In the TVA logo the light colored shapes on the "V" and "A" kind of look like an hour glass. And when you drop that shape on its side, an Infinity symbol.

Awesome. One of those pieces of "retro analogue equipment" was a Korg Volca Keys. It's a little analogue synthesizer. Its featured in the office in the bottom left of the screen at about 4:18

One theory I have is that "bad Loki" is trying to destroy the main timeline as a way to make a decision that has meaning. "Variant Loki" was distraught that his decisions seemed to have no meaning. Thus, destroying the main timeline would be the only act that has meaning. Variant Loki seems to understand the amount of power the TVA has, and might be trying to work his way up in the org. Old Loki might even be one of the people running the TVA.

11:20 That idea started sounding really exciting, only for it to lead into your iconic joke.

I can’t listen past the idea that removing a stone makes you a variant, When Miss Minutes literally says it can be over little things. Not to mention I don’t think the guy who gets eradicated, for not taking a ticket, stole a stone. The ancient one mentions taking stones creates branches. Perhaps having taken the stones created the TVA in the future. Since Loki broke off. I’m thinking everything exploded from Loki’s small gesture. Various timelines where infinity stones are stolen and taken by other people. Since the TVA has been chasing Loki for a while and somehow he just got there.
