Crouch cancelling isn't just a V-ISM thing. Every ISM can take advantage of it.
It's all about understanding the neutral state and learning to delay or avoid it. Once you have a feel for it, you can start to improvise your own setups.

Note that CCs only work because there are recovery frames you can cancel when landing from a jump. Otherwise, you would be instantly neutral the second you touch down.
It's the same reason why aerial moves with 0 recovery frames on landing can't be used for VCs (shoto tatsus or Shin Akuma DP on console).
