I have a 96 2.4 L. It was doing the same thing. I thought it was the starter or a part of the starter. I just replaced my ignition starter switch. So far no starting issues. Thank you, so much for posting a solution.

Seem to have the same problem. Truck has been out of commission for 5 days. Really appreciate you posting this. Will post if this solves it.

Got same no crank problem... changed the switch. Problem is the same. I may need an OEM starter. The remanufactured starters fail very quickly.

Makes sense brother but when mine does it it acts like it starts turning over really slow like the battery is weak. And some times i have to tap on the starter and have someone turn it over and she starts right up i had the starter checked and its almost two years old but they said the starter was fine and my battery is almost new so am glad you shared this brother and like i said my truck is identical like yours but mine has automatic in it and let me tell you i wouldn't get rid of it for nothing she has been a really good truck until this little problem 25 year's and this is the only thing that has been a problem that's pretty good but anyway thanks man

Thanks for the video. Been chasing a similar issue and was out of ideas. Have one on the way because it's a pretty cheap gamble.

I have a '97 nissan pu xtra cab, 2.4L automatic, 245K miles and runs great. I also have a 2011 Honda Accord EX, lo miles, my daily driver now. I drive the truck on weekends and when I go fishing, ect. The truck has a new battery, few days ago it started real slow. I thought it was odd, drove it to the store. When I left, it turned over a little slow again but made it home no problem. Got home and tried to start it and it 'won't start'. Checked the battery and it has 12.75 voltage, which I've checked a few mornings now, same voltage, lights, radio all work, not the battery. I do hear a very slight quiet click sound just for half a second when I turn the key on where I think the starter is, I assume it's the starter. I guess I need a new starter..Any other ideas??..Thanks

I have a question that I can't seem to find an answer too? I want to replace my entire ignition switch as they are very inexpensive. there are 2 wires going into bottom of switch and no one seems to know what they are for or how to remove the connector from old switch. 1995 D21 4 cyl 5 speed man

I think I have the same problem but I can't figure out what did you mean with the "buzzing niose". When I turn the key the engine will either start normally or it will sound like the starter runs a bit by itself, no engaged with the engine (with a small "kick" when it stops). I was thinking that the gears of the starter are failing.

I have had an issue for a while when trying to start my '93 D21. Many times, as was the case today, I push in the clutch and break, the have to jiggle the key to get it to turn over. About an hour later went to go somewhere and all the sudden I get no power to the radio, A/C, or turn signals. GeeWhiz guess to me would be the same problem you had as the symptoms all require the key to be turned to the ON position. Please let me know if this is similar to you issue or if you can guide me in t right direction. JT
