This is a AMD Duron 700 mhz Windows 98 machine I built to play MS-Dos retro games. It is quite similar to one of my machines from the turn of the century and I thought it would be fun to rebuilt my past and play some MS-Dos and Retro Windows games in the process!

A Duron? You might be a few pencil markings away from 1 GHz, but not with that heatsink.

I'm not technically savvy enough to tell you what to do with this next, but I thought this was a pretty fun video of you putting this together.

Nice video. I would recommend another video card though, because I saw some serious scrolling issues with Commander Keen. Maybe a Voodoo3 or a TNT 2.

How thick was that plastic on the CPU? Could it be that it was meant as a shim so that you don't damage the CPU die when mounting the heatsink? I remember many people chipping their Athlons back in the day because they applied too much pressure to one of the corners. You could buy copper shims to prevent that from happening.

Do you have a list of the specs for this computer? Can Windows 98 handle playing games from 5.25” floppies? I want to play some of the old floppy disk games as well.

What soundcard did you use? I have a computer running Windows 98SE but can't get the sound to work in DOS. I have Sound Blaster Audigy SB1394 soundcard installed with the necessary drivers.

LOL you forgot about Win98 'occasional lag'. Prug N Pray? DLL Hell? Bluescreens?
Now that we have better systems to use for real, these retro systems can be fun.

Nice video. I am also a big fan of socket 462 but last year I updated my win98 system to this:Asrock 775i65G R3.0 (LGA775)Celeron E3400Geforce 6800GTSB live!512MB memory250GB sata driveThe computer has a SATA disk drive dock in the front, so I can change to win95/win98SE/winME/win2000 as I like.

I missed my Win 98 Pentium II computer back then. It ran lighter than XP. I played....uhhh what was that again? Heroes III : Of Might and Magic?

Always been a fan of Desktop style cases!

Make a HT-Retro-PC!! And fit it in the livingroom for Family time fun (or wtf is Dad makin' us do now?), Chillin' with a SO, or Retro-style party time! At the very least, a conversation starter and dust collector. All that's needed is a VGA (with Audio) to HDMI to integrate Retro-Old with Modern HDMI New! ... and maybe toss some paint or de-yellow it

Duron is a nice age for Motherboards with ISA slot were still available. For AMD, trick is to find a Motherboard with ISA sand can take a Barton Core or Mobile Core. Mobile Core is nice with Power Now to help slow CPU for those finicky games.
