WHAT HAPPENED?! - Wuthering Waves CBT vs Release 1.0 - Why did they remove the story?

I really enjoy Wuthering Waves, but why did they have to remove the Story & RPG Elements trying to appease a specific group of Beta Testers? If you watch the CBT gameplay vs the Release you will see that the entire story was removed and replaced with the mundane filler that we received. I understand CBT wasn't perfect, but a world in a state of emergency and you drop out of the sky sucking up echoes, I think they have a right to be weary of you! I truly hope Kuro Games can revamp the story in the upcoming patches. I think combat is amazing and overall the game is great, but I think this was a mistake, do you?

Player feedback can be a disaster, the direction went down hill just to please "players " who most likely didn't even play the game at launch, kuro needs to stay true to itself and their vision.

Kuro really needs to release CBT to other regions, not the the CN because they’re not just the ones playing, but everyone

We lost SO MUCH lore and story back during CBT1 because of the change. Here’s some notable ones I remember:

- Crownless was supposed to be our Vergil. He’d be back and fight us stronger as we do too.
- Calcharo appears in the story ACTUALLY. His shadow TD is actually his brother in the afterlife watching over him. He's also tied to the Feilian Beringal boss as well.
- Aalto and Encore have separate introductions.
- Camellya used to be Chun and is actually one of the very first characters revealed for the game.
- Encore actually has ties to Scar.
- Yinlin is tied to the Mourning Aix.
- We actually could’ve had flashbacks about Rover being from/reincarnated from an advanced civilization.
- Jiyan actually accompanied you as early as going to meet Jinhsi and stick with you to the end.
- Lampylumen Myriad is actually a TD made out of souls clinging to life, not unlike what the Thundering Mephis in the current story.

Even if they changed the story, they could've kept the Crownless'es entry Cutscene.

The big mistake of ww was doing a 13 years old story for a world build for a story for 16+.

this is why devs shouldn't give CBT players a golden key because frankly, gamers are stupid.

in the release we got so much missing context.

- Crownless feels like a one off boss that has nothing to do with us
- Scar's attempt to recruit us feels pointless because at that point, everyone is nice to us, why would we consider Scar's persuasion?
- It doesn't make sense why Rover is somewhat have interest in yangyang
- who the fuck is yuanwu? we never met him and suddenly he's helping us?? Shouldn't that be Sanhua?

So that's why yangyang got the long-drawn solo flashback during the dreamless fight. That came out of nowhere lmao.

Personally, I like the flow of how the tutorials were done in the final game (at least gameplaywise) but that original storyline in CBT1 would've added more to the characters. And them not trusting you and questioning your origins would add more weight when we get to that scene with Scar. It would've given us reason to at least consider the things he said. My only hope is that Kuro would reuse some of those story elements in future arcs cause it's really a shame we didn't get that CBT1 story. I personally wouldn't care if the story took too long if it was that interesting.

Dude Crowless was the real Victim here, Such downgrade for a suposed rival, every good thing was lost because CN was bitching about how all the characters distrust the Rover... an actual unknow person in the middle of state of emergency... such a lost.

MAKE CROWLESS GREAT AGAIN!

That's true, remember the final chapter 1 ''defending the town?''

A random gacha character appear without proper story is there whom we almost have no relation whatsoever and during the mc fight against the final boss, Yuanwu appear during his flashback. Like who tf is Yuanwu to you? why these secret organization of black flower suddenly becoming your friend in less than a chapter .

it's like they're firing a great scriptwriter and hired a 12 years old instead.

Wait bruh we actually got robbed xjsjxjsjx
The CBT story was so gooood
Especially with how baizhi and chixia reacted to rover
Its so tense and it felt so realistic and gritty

As an artist and seeing the CBT footage for the first time, I believe it explained much more. During global release, I was left wondering what overclocking was, why Baizhi and Chicah(however you spell it), unable to help us, why the enemy feels so bland, and so on. This CBT footage helped me more so than the actual release.

The thing you said about an echo chamber changing the whole game for everybody, FACTS. That's what pisses me off. I almost had my perfect game. And these ppl ruined it. Everything was a blur until reverse rain; you should be hooked 1st chapter. Scar shouldn't be the first time you get interested in the game?? I read some comments about it, and people say it's kuro's fault for 360ing, yea, but if they weren't pissy about chixia's gun moment, they wouldn't have gotten scared. I finished the main story, but it still feels empty, like nothing happened. If cbt 1 happened, the stakes and tone would've been set for 2 and chp. 3. It's too positive, not gritty for an apocalypse.

I agree. The CBT scene feels like there's something at stake. It also establishes a better connection for the Rover with the characters. It also reinforces that The Crownless isn't just a normal TD. Sure the 1.0 version told us he's an overlord class TD. BUT, the CBT version actually SHOWED it and not just tell.

I feel like they're trying to mirror the firtst chapter of PGR where Lucia fought Alpha and is designed for us to lose. That scene is so awesome and sets the tone of the world and the story. It also makes the commandant (rover) feel attached to the character (Lucia) and set a character arc that is self-improvement to defeat Alpha.

Overall, I feel like tweaking a bit of the CBT story will yield far better result overall. It's mature and grounded without being edgy. I feel like they infantilized the story (not to the point of Genshin Disney style though).

I hope they stop pandering to us players when it comes to creative direction like the narrative. They should only primarily listen when it comes to gameplay-related issues but NEVER on the fundamental factors on the creative-side like art direction and writing save for some issues like pacing, dialogue, bloat, etc.

While I don't dislike the approach they're doing now, I genuinely can't get over what they've done to Danjin...

There is a fine line between listening to criticism and bending to any and all demands.

Taking the public's opinion into consideration is important, but not to the point of compromising the creator's vision, as at that point it is no longer the same product.
