Thanks for correcting misinformation. Our non-Catholic brethren need to see this.

Hey Michael, i had my first confession since child yesterday in the Orthodox church, thanks alot to your videos. Interesting, I didn't get any word even of needing to do anything and I completely forgot, I felt so light. But I struggle with OCD (not diagnosed but I have the symptoms pretty much) and scrupulosity, so it didn't take me long, no joke I walked out of the church, then like 800m later, I feel this need to do the sign of the cross in public at the traffic lights, I tried to, couldn't do it, I did many later on, didn't help, I feel like I have denied Christ in front of other people and putting their opinions before Christ's. I'm a 16 year old boy, any prayers or advice would be appreciated.

Ps. I feel really attracted to the Catholic Church and I might become one in the future. Mainly thanks to your videos Michael you have brought me to Orthodoxy and Catholicism, there are still lots of that I don't understand or yet agree but I try to. You see I don't wanna be a heretic :)

I'm so tired of seeing these videos of protestants spreading lies about our Faith. The amount of information about the Catholic Church and what She teaches is so readily available today that anyone who is honestly wanting to search for the truth before making these types of videos can look in to it. Maybe I should start doing videos calling out the " unbilical" doctrines of their "churches".

A very charitable dismantling of this "pastor's" lamentable thoughts on his idea of Catholicism. BTW Michael you are looking very well and healthy. May God continue to bless you and your family.

Back when I was an anti-Catholic Protestant I would just regurgitate whatever anti-catholic things I heard, and I didn’t even check official Catholic teaching to see if it was true. I think that’s the same for most Protestants.

I think the biggest deception in the churches is the teaching that there is no escape from the flesh nature while in the body.
In truth, the flesh has no power over those who have truly been Born Again. The struggle is when people try to conquer their sin by their own power, because they have not received the Holy Spirit:
Scripture says, Collosians 2:11
"and in Him (Jesus) you were also circumcised with a circumcision performed without hands, in the removal of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ, "
This tells us that Jesus removes the flesh nature when one is truly reborn.
Romans 8:9-11 confirms this:
"But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you."
The Apostle John said:
1 John 3
"Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin.  No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.
Dear children,  do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. The one who does what is sinful is of the devil,  because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. No one who is born of God will continue to sin,  because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God. This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister."
Jude 1:24 agrees with John's teachings:
"Now to him (Jesus) who is able to keep you from stumbling (sinning) and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, "
Scripture also says:
1 Corinthians 10:13
"No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it."
If your preacher does not talk like God's prophets and apostles, they are a fake.
When the Apostle Paul spoke about his struggles with sin, he was speaking about his past before he received the Holy Spirit, because he also said:
1 Corinthians 15:34 :
"Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God—I say this to your shame."
Paul also said, "Those who are in the flesh cannot please God." Romans 8;1-8
When Jesus said, "The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak." He had not sent the Holy Spirit yet.
Jesus told the Pharisees,
"You will die in your sins."
For anyone who dies in their flesh, they are guaranteed to end up in Hell.
Scripture confirms this:
“For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.” Romans 8:13.
God's grace does not allow us to go on sinning. God's grace changes us. God's grace does not free us to sin. It frees us from sin. Decieved Christians have a false sense of security believing that they can sin until the day they die and still go to heaven, but they don't have faith in the power of the Holy Spirit to free them from the bondage of sin itself. Any notion of the freedom that God offers is quickly discouraged by false churches. There is more money in it for them if they keep their followers in the dark.
There is no doubt, countless Christians who have embraced false doctrine have ended up in Hell.
To deny the power of the Holy Spirit to deliver us from sin so that we can live a righteous life is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.
The Apostle Paul said:
"Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord."
Hebrews 12:14
One who has not been converted to righteousness is not saved.

Would this still be true even if the priest sensed the confessor was not really concerned about fighting sin and resisted any penances? Should a wise priest withhold absolution in that case?

Hey, Mike! I just noticed, but you don't seem to get along well with other Mikes.

You know you can't take a different belief that may be more accurate to the Scriptures and then apply that to Catholicism and then say "that is Catholicism" The word Penance is literally Defined as "a sacrament in which a member of the Church confesses sins to a priest and is given absolution." absolution being "formal release from guilt, obligation, or punishment" it's in the definition that it is required for Salvation from Sins. This is Jesus+ 101.
