Question : why pulling the hip when throwing the Kizami. Or to be more clear : why pulling the hip of the tsuki that is thrown when moving forward during the oitsuki ?
Thanks

Hip vibration on oi-zuki is so often done incorrectly. The problem is that when you are punching thin air, it's incredibly difficult to receive the correct feedback. If your punching side hip is moving backward at the moment you make contact with your punch, this is very ineffective. Notice that although Team KI demonstrates oi-zuki with hip vibration in the solo practice, the timing of the hip and the punch is not correct. Lead hip is going backwards on impact. They do not do it this way when demonstrating on the pads however. In fact, there is a general lack of hip vibration when striking a real target.

I have a question, you support your punch with your hip rotation at the start of the punch, but at the end of the punch you rotate your hip back to neutral position so your shoulder moves backwards while your punch moves forward, does it not cut power of the punch? I've never seen this anywhere else, but this karate style and I would really like to know.

Technically perfect. This is the way I was taught to execute oi tsuki and the way I practiced it for many years. But I have come round to the conclusion that it is wrong. You cannot pull of this version of oi tsuki in freeplay. In fact, many shotokan practitioners abandoned oi tsuki in the 70s because it is too slow when done as depicted here, and they would get clocked coming in.

There are basically two things that have to be changed. First, the fist must hit the target before the stepping foot hits the ground. Look at old videos of Joe Lewis and Frank Brennan doing oi tsuki this way and getting good hits.

Second, you should extend the shoulders with the punch rather than keeping it square. This gives added power to the blow.

It is rather hard to execute oi tsuki as I have described it to the air, but try it on a heavy bag. You'll see then. It is a very powerful and fast blow.

I would like to say that I figured this stuff out for myself. But I was taught the more practical method of executing oi tsuki by Sensei Jack Morris who learned it from Joe Lewis.

Ok... this question is for native Japanese speakers... I have read (repeTedly) that using "oos /ous" is not correct and considered insulting in Traditional Okinawa dojos.. that "Hai" is much more correct.. please clarify if possible.... thank you !

Anyone who is looking this: In this video it looks like their hand go to full extension (hand straight elbow locked). Now, Im not sure if they hit in full extension but all of you DONT EVER hit full extension. This will destroy your elbow and end you martail art career, or at least you are in pain. What ever martial arts you do none of them when done properly dont include full (locked) elbow extension. There are no exception, no discussion, thats just the way we are built. If you hit with locked elbow long enough its 100% quarantee you are on your way to destroy your elbow.
Dont get me wrong, you can go close, very close to full extension but never lock your elbow. You will feel when its locked, dont hit like that.

Für mich sieht das so aus, als würdet ihr die Atmung pressen? Was passiert mit dem Verlauf der Technik und der zu vermittelnden Energie?

Doesn't it cost power to turn back your hip before you ended the punch?

En el oi zuky no se debe mover el pie delantero para iniciar el avance de ataque. Eso es un error.
