It seems the importance of sufficient Vitamin D is becoming more widely understood ... including by the general public.
This test should be available in the USA ... now.
And this valuable DrBeen video can be the demo of how to use the test.

I’m surprised, Dr. Mobeen, that you haven’t had this test done already by a professional lab! How about metabolic profile, liver enzymes, lipid profile, etc? Not every year perhaps because you’re young, but frequently enough.

Thanks for the interesting demonstration! It would be interesting to get a professional vitamin D test at a local laboratory.

What is your current diet affects everything inside you. If you are eating too much of this, then it must be cut down. If you are not eating enough of that, it must be consumed a little more.

By using the prep-wipe that way, 3:20 you may have added some alcohol contamination to the blood sample collection site.

Dr. Been,

Do you know how reliable or accurate this test is for Vitamin D? I have been looking at the Kiweno website but couldn't find any info about reliability of test. Have correlation studies been done of this test and compared with a reference analytical method for Vitamin D?

For this test to be useful, a reliability of 90% or greater need to be achieved consistently. So before you freak out about your low blood Vitamin D level of 19ng/ml, make sure this test kit for vitamin D is reliable.

Since you still have spare kits available, draw a blood sample and split into two. Do the test again for vitamin D with one of the two blood samples using the Kiweno test kit. Send the other blood sample to a reputable or reference laboratory to have the Vitamin D level determined. If the two results are about the same, Great! If widely different, then you need to be very cautious; one of the test must be wrong! And you don't want to make decisions (e.g. by taking more Vitamin D supplements) based on inaccurate information.

Look forward to hear more from you about this Vitamin D test kit.

Best regards,

Peter

Maybe you have a polymorphism in your vitamin D receptors that is making it difficult to absorb supplemental D?

Have you noticed any difference with your levels depending on whether you get more or less time in the Sun?

Request: omega6:omega3 ratio using OmegaQuant's finger-prick test? Wonderful show.

I think it is easy to assume that because we supplement, our levels are OK. I was shocked when I had mine tested at the end of summer a few years ago - had assumed my levels would be high, and they were far from that. Dr Been has darker skin than some of us, and the darker our skin the less Vit D we make from sunshine. It is crazy that tests are not approved in the US. There are many a ailaable in the UK (and GP surgeries will test for free). Thriva i offers lab tests where you take your own blood sample. I think (seem to remember) that we get the best results when we take Vit D in the morning, and K2 and magnesium at night. Last time I was tested for K2 I was told that I didn't need to supplement it, and I don't - maybe I get enough from yoghurt.

Its a safe assumption for most people that they are sub optimal for vitamin D levels. Modest supplementation of 2000 to 3000iu is wise for most folks in the northern hemisphere especially in winter.

Please let us know the results of your professional lab test. A confirmation of you really being at 19 would be very surprising. I'm a little disappointed that you do not seem to know the accuracy of the Kiweno test.

Dr Been, please get a proper Vitamin D blood test and can you also get the tablets analysed, as levels not always as stated on tubs. Can you also explain nanomols to nanograms as we use nanomols in the UK. My doctor advised me, I should have 85 nanomols per litre which I believe is 34 nanograms per litre. I will be very interested to learn what level of D3 the tablets contain.

Hi, how come your vitamin D levels were 19 ng/ml. You have been taking them regularly. Are you doing anything different as you now know that it is low?

Is it available in India? If yes, what is the approximate cost?
