Dude, thanks a million for your time on recording all this material and sharing here. After a full afternoon banging my head with OpenLDAP I found your video and worked perfectly. Please keep up the awesome job and tomorrow I will proceed on your next video to integrate auth with this LDAP. Again, I really appreciate your help. May your god bless you. Best regards from Campinas, Brazil.

Few points could help other to install and configure properly. In the above steps it is mentioned to create self signed certificates after starting slapd service, but in my environment it was giving error so I have created keys first and then started slapd. In the client configuration it is not mentioned to install nfs and rpcbind but in client machine as well we need to install these packages which also is missing in the videos.

Rest all is good enough for beginner to follow this article. Thanks learnitguide for your efforts..!!!!

For everyone getting the

*Job for slapd.service failed because the control process exited with error code. See "systemctl status slapd.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details.* error, one of the below solutions have to work -

1. Make sure you have those certificates in place, to do it, run the below commands (as mentioned by the instructor)

*openssl req -new -x509 -nodes -out -keyout -days 365*

[Note] : Double check the name of the certificate and the key file as they should be the same as specified in the "hdb" file

2. The problem might be the CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) which basically arises due to the changed contents of both the files (That's why the warning line in the stating of these files. Thanks to @Jacqueline for bringing it up).

To solve this -
(a). copy the 2 files (hdb and monitor ones) to /tmp -
# cp /tmp
# cp /tmp

(b). Delete the 2 commented lines (Make sure that there are no empty lines in the starting, otherwise the CRC may come out wrong)

(c). install perl-Archive-Zip to install the crc32 utility (Basically a tool to generate a new checksum for the altered file) -
# yum install perl-Archive-Zip

(d). Run the below command to generate the new checksum -
# crc32 /tmp/*ldif
You will get 2 new checksums for both monitor and hdb files. Note them down somewhere

(e). From the original files, you can see there is a commented line *# CRC32 (Most probably it's the second line). Just copy the new checksums from where you noted them and paste it in the original hdb and monitor files. Just save and exit !

3. Try setting SELinux to permissive ( temporarily ) -
# setenforce 0

4. Try disabling the firewall ( *It makes literally everything vulnerable so don't blame it on me* )
# systemctl disable firewalld

If nothing works, well, look for an error code in journalctl -
# journalctl -xe
and search the internet for it.

Hope it solves your problem and you might not break your monitor out of frustration.

Thanks!! It really worked!!

However, Please create the certificates before starting the slapd service. This MUST be done before starting the service so this step should come before. If there are no certificates created and placed at the mentioned path, slapd will fail at the TLS step.

Useful video. How do you integrate OpenLDAP with Windows server LDAPS and configure Linux clients to authenticate against LDAPS?

Thank you so much for this great tutorial! Is it possible to have another tutorial where we can integrate OpenLDAP with phpLDAPadmin? I tried to integrate openLDAP with phpLDAPadmin, however, I am unable create users from phpLDAPadmin because of the error message

Template Value Error
This template uses a selection list for attribute [gidNumber], however the selection list is empty.
You may need to create some dependancy entries in your LDAP server so that this attribute renders with values. Alternatively, you may be able to define the appropriate selection values in the template file.
