Editorial With Sujit Nair: Gandhis Vs G-23

As the Congress struggles with exits and crises in various states, a leader of the "G-23" or group of 23 party dissidents has shot off a new letter to Sonia Gandhi after last year's bombshell while another has questioned decisions taken at the top. Ghulam Nabi Azad has written to the interim chief calling for a meeting of the Congress's top body on electing a full-time party president. However, Gandhi supporters didn't take the statement well and staged a protest outside Sibal's residence in Delhi. This was condemned by several senior leaders of the party. Almost noone out of G-23 are from Loksabha and not connected to the ground. Your assessment is perfectly correct. Mobody from G-23 has come out on roads to fight. No body prevented G-23 from becoming the President.

After Rajeev Gandhi assassination no person came forward to be the leader of the congress. In distress they went to Sonia Gandhi and begged her to take up the reins of the congress. She unwittingly took up the job and lived upto the expectations eventhough she had little knowledge about the politics of the country. Indeed she was successful. These G-23 people should be thankful to her.Rahul Gandhi became the president but due to the debacle at the hustings he resigned. He should not have resigned but continued his work. Among the congress leaders even now he is more popular and a crowd puller than many of these G-23 people. He should take up the reins of the congress party again and should have a team of stalwarts such as Kargeji, Manmohan Singhji, Kamalnath and others to guide him.
