How the cats / cat actually see the world.

The biggest difference between human vision and cat vision is in the retina, a layer of tissue at the back of the eye that contains cells called photoreceptors. The photoreceptors convert light rays into electrical signals, which are processed by nerve cells, sent to the brain, and translated into the images we see. These photoreceptors are the ones that influence how we and cats see the world. In this video, are going to look at how the internet's favorite subject sees the world.

Fun tip: If you use a laser pointer to play with your cat they will be able to see a green one better then a red one.
Also cats can't focus very well on objects close to their face. They rely on their whiskers and sense of smell. They also have a smaller vertical range of vision then humans (although they have a greater horizontal range). You can observe this by walking up to your cat and sometimes they will tilt there head sideways in order to be able to completely you view you.

Cats can also hear the sounds of plumbing and the electricity of some wires in the wall. That is why a cat will sometimes stare or even attack the wall when it seems like nothing is there.

This is an old video, but cats are exceptional at seeing movement. If you are in the darkness for over 10 minutes, your eyes will adjust and be using mostly rod photo receptors. (The ones your cats use.) Have you ever picked up movement in the complete dark even though you didn't see what it was? You know precisely what direction it came from. That's your rods!

So many comments from people saying the vid is bull because they believe cats need 2020 vision to do what they do.

News flash idiots, Stevie Wonder doesn't need eyes to play the piano. Cats have whiskers that can detect changes in air movement from yards away as well as sounds bouncing off objects combined with multi directional hearing and each ear can track independently of the other.

Stop humanizing cats. They do not require senses in the same compliment as we do to do what they do. They are perfectly balanced predators.

Amazing, I wish I could see at night like that. I always forget exactly what colors an animal can see and which it cannot but the night vision is something I wish I had, since I'm usually up at night anyway
