LineageOS is the spiritual successor to the Legendary CyanogenMod. And as a matter of fact, the original CynogenMod Developers created LineageOS! In this video, I show you How to Unlock the Bootloader, Root the Phone (SuperSU), Custom Recovery (TWRP Team Win Recovery) and Install LineagOS all using Linux.

I offer one piece of advice, backup your new install with TeamWin TWRP to an sd card (it's very easy) because if your system crashes on system update installs (not all but there will be one which will brick your install) you can always revert back to your last lineageos backup...this advice is from my own experience 😌.

You forgot to say to wipe system as well, it removes the old OS and makes it less likely to bootloop or cause bugs.

What if my s4 was rooted when I bought it .Do I have to root it? It was supposed to be an unlocked phone but although in settings it says it is rooted .

You should have told us to download super su before having to go open it in the Team Win folder. It seems like you skipped a step.

When I ran 'fastboot oem get_unlock_data', I got <waiting for any device>. Did you run into this problem too?

abd devices doesn't bring anything up.

I installed it from the software manager but when abd didn't work I tried again from the terminal and was told the package couldn't be found.
I used "whereis abd" but the command brought up no file locations. The software manager says it's installed.
