Piers Morgan clashes with guest over trans athletes competing in women's sports

Political journalist Ava Santina and Sky News Australia host Piers Morgan have clashed in a heated discussion about transgender women competing in women’s sports.

Trans swimmer Lia Thomas has now mounted a legal fight against World Aquatics to overturn its restrictions on the participation of trans athletes in elite women's competitions.

“I don’t think it’s fair that people who have experienced gender dysphoria when they’re growing up and don’t feel they’re in the right body should not be allowed to compete in sports,” Ms Santina told Mr Morgan.

“Lia Thomas, she’s a woman, and so she is competing as a woman.

“What do we say about trans women … do we just say they’re not allowed to play sport ever?”

Ava is revolting, suggesting that we medicalise children so they don’t go through puberty, creating lifelong medical complications on the off chance that they do want to fully transition and participate in sports! Ridiculous. And even if she was correct then Leah Thomas went through puberty and so should be exempt from Women’s sport

Let they make their own division to compete each other their muscles (bodies) and gender.

What Ava doesn’t understand is that sport is not an emotional game - it’s about natural athletic ability. The reason that sports are segregated is because the sex-based differences between men and women are too great to ignore. Longitudinal studies now confirm that, despite HRT decreasing volumes in muscle cross-sectional areas, lean body mass and strength after 12–36 months of hormone therapy, these values remain higher than that in biological women. Therefore it’s reasonable to state that a trans woman would present physiological advantages such as: overall larger body size, more skeletal muscles, higher muscle strength and power, lower body fat, and greater maximal anaerobic/ aerobic energy delivery.

I will never quite grasp why this is so hard for others to understand… Protect women’s sport & safe spaces! ❤️
