What should one do to manage sudden increase of pulse rate| Heart rate? - Dr. Sreekanth B Shetty
Показать описание
Sudden increase in the heart rate occurs in various cardiac conditions. Sometimes common situations such as anxiety can cause this. Addressing the underlying problem causing the anxiety might reduce the heart rate. It can also happen in people who have anaemia, thyroid disorders, other conditions such as pregnancy which stress the heart. Sudden increase in heart rate can also be seen in people with different types of cardiac arrhythmias. Some of these cannot be managed by the patient himself. However in a condition called paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia where in electrical shocks are getting within the heart some manoeuvres such as blowing through a straw that has been tied at one end or splashing cold water on the face or drinking a glass of cold milk can suddenly terminate the fast heart beat and solve the problem before you get to the hospital. Otherwise most of these fast heart rhythms needs to be sorted out in the emergency room after doing an ECG and recognising the kind of heart rhythm disorder and the medication and further treatment will depend upon the type of arrhythmia. Some will have dangerous cardiac arrhythmias which could potentially harmful. Those kind of arrhythmias will need to be urgently addressed by delivering a electrical shock from the outside which is obviously going to be done in the ICU or in the emergency room.
