I think that another reason falling into water kills the death angels is their lack of eyesight and heavy armor, which will prevent them from surfacing. They'll most likely try to attack the water because of the noise, but it will make a sound of the water running against it's hand and it will try to attack again but make more noise, and it will eventually drown because it can't keep afloat.
