This scene made me cry so much. Some people have never known how it felt to have people laughing at you, make you feel out of place. And the fact that Glinda stepped in and danced with her and wiped her tears 👏🏿👏🏿 most people wouldn’t have been a Glinda so THATS why the scene was so powerful.

Not only is this scene powerful and emotional you can learn a lot about elphaba just from how she dances. A lot of her dancing is reflective of animal mating rituals where they dance to communicate they want a companion and the fact that she was not only alone and dancing to show how she was alone but also how she grew up surrounded by animals and how she learned from them and the fact that Galinda - the “GA” is silent - danced in return with her is how an animal would communicate back when they want to be their companion when I saw it in theaters I noticed it which made me very emotional because not only is Galinda helping her feel included but it shows Elphaba’s cries for companionship which elevates the line “she does care, she just doesn’t show it” and gives more into the thought of the characters in that moment. This scene has to be one of the most powerful, memorable, emotional, and iconic of the film really showing why it’s such a great film.

I feel like Elphaba was just tired of people laughing at her, so she said screw it and just danced however she wanted to even if it was embarrassing because, she’s already being judged, like how much worse can that get? It’s kinda liberating when you think about it, and Glinda participating just made it so much better because she was willing to let go of that perfect persona so Elphaba didn’t feel alone. 😢😢

I agree with the interpretations of most of the people in the comments. But I also feel like the way Elphaba was holding eye contact with Glinda while initially doing the dance, was Elphaba being like: “This is the last chance. You can either save my trust or break it.”

Both Elphaba and Glinda were strong women here. Elphaba danced even while everyone laughed at her. Glinda joined and helped during the laughter. Very sad scene. I loved it!

Something about the way that she puts the hat back on just warms my heart. She out it on and it somehow looked different. The way she wore it, her attitude towards the mockery, completely shufted. And the hat just landed on her head with such different energy than when she walked into the Ozdust ballroom
