MINCE AND CHEESE PIES RECIPE

Ingredients

2 Garlic Cloves
1 tsp Oil
500g / 1Lb Beef Mince / Ground Beef
3 tsp Dijon Mustard
1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 Tbsp Soy Sauce
⅓ Cup Flour
½ tsp Pepper
2 Cups / 500ml Beef Stock
¼ Cup Grated Cheddar Cheese
¼ Cup Grated Mozzarella Cheese
2 Sheets Frozen Butter Puff Pastry

Instructions

Heat a heavy based frypan over high heat. Add the oil and crushed garlic and cook until fragrant while the pan is heating up. Add the beef and cook over high heat, breaking it up with a wooden spoon.
When the beef has browned turn the heat to low and add the mustard, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce and pepper. Mix until combined. Sprinkle the flour over the beef and cook for a further few minutes.
Pour in half of the beef stock and stir to combine, the mixture should start to thicken straight away. Add the second half and continue to mix together. Simmer the beef filling for 30 minutes to an hour to thicken. Cool before using.
Roll out the two sheets of puff pastry and cut 4 rounds out of each to fit your pie pans. Line each pie pan with the pastry.
Add a quarter of the beef filling to each, followed by dividing the cheese between each of the 4 pies. Add the top sheet of pastry, folding the bottom and top together. Cut a steam vent in the top of each pie so it doesn't explode in the oven.
Bake the pies at 200C / 400F for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and puffed up. Let them stand for 5 minutes before serving.

I watch a TV show called the "Casteteers" Filmed in New Zealand. It's about the lives of the people who own and work at a funeral home. They show enormous respect and love to the family's at their time of sadness and loss. The people that work there are wonderful to the families and incorporate love and caring to the families....But they all have such a sense humor in their personal lives.. Frances the owner is always sneaking away from his wife and eating these pies. He loves to eat and always leads into the days latest latest adventures. So that the reason I found you to find out what's so good about these pies. Give it a watch..it's not at all what you would think a funeral home people. Thank you so much. I will have to try and find this treat here in America.

OMG, I just made some of these and I was eating the filling before I even put it in the pastry!! Im from NZ but have been living in Australia now for 24 years. Its a bit hit and miss here with the pies sometimes, cant beat a good NZ pie :) NZ also has the best sausage rolls, do you have a video on making them?

Well my wife Amy and I are in South Carolina USA- and we love watching Brokenwood Mysteries- I love all Bri-Aus mysteries. I pay attention to what they are eating, and Mike and the crowd were talking about mince VS steak pies. Sounds yummy (I am a chemist and love to cook) so I've looked you up. We'll try them this week!

Can’t wait to try your recipe! Most recipes I find online are tomato sauce based which I’m not a fan of so I am so excited by your recipe list.
We’re under total confinement at the moment so lots of time for new recipe tasting :)

Hi carina lol fellow kiwi cook here living in oz, I literally just made mince and cheese pies and quiches on the weekend and froze a heap of them! Just the time of year isn’t it? And with everything going on good comfort food from home is what’s needed, love watching your channel Thxs off to make some chocolate crunch! 😋

I am from India nice video but can't make it here my parent don't allow me to cook meat in the kitchen because they are vegetarian ...😅😅 but still thanks.
