Japanaese City Pop is totally my vibe and has been since I was a little tot in 1985, watching Creamy Mami magic Angel dubbed in Italian (all we watched was Italian tv channels in my infancy), but even Italians from the 70s and 80s are obsessed with Japanese pop from that era. Still totally obsessed. I mean...this music is so uplifting. I don't know how many of these albums I have on vinyl now but they never fail to make me happy whenever I put the record on. And I wouldn't really classify myself as a 'pop' fan. Mariya Takeuchi, Miki Matsubara and Meiko Nakahara are my favourites but thank you for opening the door to others.

Edit: I think people are misunderstanding my comment, I know about when it went viral cause it got recommended to everyone. That's what my comment is referring to, it wasn't really a hit back when first released but became a hit by being recommended by youtube. I've seen the video describing it's success and resurgence. I also know the story behind Stay with me by Miki Matsubara.

I heard "Stay with me" playing while I was at a store few weeks ago for the first time and immediately fell in love with the song, however I didnt know the name of the song, I tried to Shazam it, but it didn't recognize the song. city pop in general has a very unique sound, in my personal opinion these songs are just well known, you see them on most playlists there are plenty of amazing songs " just like a movie star" is a lovely one as well as "sweet memories"
you just have to delve into this genre.
