The point where the debate comes in is between the goals, where each one has arguments to be classified as the best goalscorer, and in the UCL, (where Ronaldo is better than Messi in this aspect).
In literally every other aspect of football, Messi wins. The thing is that, in the football aspects where Ronaldo wins, Messi is close or even in same level compared to Ronaldo, while in the football aspects where Messi wins, Messi has a significant advantage in each one, where Ronaldo is not close to Messi in those things.

Yes, the only debate is in the UCL (Ronaldo clearly better in this aspect) and in goals (debatable), in other things, Messi has a lot of advantage.

There is no comparison what so ever, not a real one at least, it is a MEDIA "rivalry", but every normal human being who loves and watches football would say Messi and this comparison makes Messi looks less than what he actually is and makes Cristiano better than what he actually is. One aspect of Cristiano can be compared with Messi which is goal scoring, and Messi percentage wise and quality wise (not needing great teammates to assist him) is also much better and efficient than Cristiano, but what about all other extraordinary things Messi does? reading the game, his vision, movements, passing skills, of course god level dribbling skills, FK .. and more, you can pick one side of Messi and compare it with a whole other great player's career, you would put Messi with Neymar in terms of dribbling, Cristiano in terms of goal scoring, Iniesta in terms of passing, Xavi in terms of vision and more, this alone tells you that Messi is the GOAT and much bigger than any other player. We judge Messi on the things that he "couldn't achieve" like the WC and Copa (before her won it) and that alone should tell you that he's the GOAT, you are judging him on a criteria of his own, every other player you would argue his skills and achievements, with Messi he is judged by the things that he still didn't achieve which is basically just the WC lol, that alone tells you he's the best, you are admitting that he's the GOAT when you try to belittle him.

Messi is by far the better footballer. A considerably better dribbler, passer, playmaker, freekick taker as well as a better finisher. Ronaldo can head the ball better and can take a better penalty... Thats about it. Talent-wise, Ronaldo is not on level with Maradona, George Best, Cruyff, Zidane, R9 let alone Messi. He just has the statistics. Which is fine. But they dont tell the whole picture.

Just by looking at Messi dribbling and magical passing abilities is enough to know he's a better football player. Then you check the advanced stats like xG, key passes, through ball, touches in opposition half, failed ball controls, ball carries, successful 1v1, goals/assists, passing accuracy, free kicks stats (scored, precision) etc... and again, Messi is the better offensive player !
Finally, if you could mesure the hype that one or the other generates among football fans by just watching them play, I think Messi would again win the battle as Messi does way more things on the ball (especially 1v1, ball carries, tight spaces situations getting out of pressure by himself) and with his high quality passes + quickness and precision in the technical execution of all those things.

Messi > Ronaldo. I mean how could you deny what I just wrote there... If you can't accept that, you just don't know this sport and you just love Ronaldo too much.
