It's not a debate.
Messi scores more goals per minute. Way more assists per minute. Needs fewer attempts to score. Better conversion rate from essentially everywhere.
And he doesn't just score, but creates chances. Best dribbler, best passer (most assists in history).

Gary defeated his own argument by opening up those stats. If someone new to football saw those stats, they'd instantly believe that Messi is the better player. And keep in mind these are only goal stats. If they pull up assists and playmaking stats, there would be no discussion.

Carragher also brought up a point about Messi that is seldom mentioned, his playmaking, his fenomenal precision passing ability, his vision, in his prime, to see the exact spaces his teammates had not yet run onto but Messi would find an almost impossible passing lane threading the ball between several opposing defenders, between their legs, just over their heads to find an Iniesta, a Suarez a streaming Jordi Alba in full stride . How many hundreds of goals have Barcelona and Argentina teammates scored due to his incredible vision, his absolutely magical passes . True Ronaldo and Messi are almost equal as goal scorers although Messi, based on Gary's own stats, achieved his totals in 117 less appearances than Ronaldo, but, as I explained, Messi is more multi dimensional, but don't take my word, all you need to do is YouTube this little man to see not only his goals but his playmaking to see why he is the GOAT

It's funny how in the debate it's always about goals, because they know Messi is also the best dribbler and passer ever. And still he has a better goal ratio then Ronaldo. And he don't score that much with Argentina because he is a playmaker and not a striker, he leds the team from the midfield. Nobody would say Modric is bad because he only shoot five goals. I like Ronaldo and you can like him more than Messi, but someone who has the slightest knowledge of Football knows Messi is clear.

It honestly baffles me how it’s a debate. Anybody who watches football knows it’s Messi. Like the guy picks up the ball in the defensive half, beats 2-3 players on the press, sprays a threaded through ball 30 yards, sprints another 40, and then has a first time finish from a cut-back from outside the box kissing the post and the ball barely went 6 inches off the ground. Who does that?
