Bought a truck from car max and it came with factory wheels on the photos, but when I got it, it had different ones. I was told to take it back and they would give the ones on the photo. Which they did, but then they told me truck needed a head gasket replacement and it was going cost $4800 to fix it. Not having the $$$ on hand I took the truck home. I open the hood and to my surprise I found a screwdriver stuck on a vacuum hose. I took pictures and send to the regional mgr. He came down to the local store and replaced all staff. Plus a got few free oil changes…..18 years later truck still running. Good truck just dealing with dishonest people….it doesn’t take much to be a good citizen.

Good! Hope they fail…. Ripping people off for years. Someone I know got ripped off years ago with a marked up sale price, overpriced extended warranty and a 10% it reset rate with a 780 credit score. Luckily I was able to help them out, by calling the warranty company within 30 days and and cancelling the warranty for a full refund and refinancing the rate down to 2.4%. They still got screwed by over paying for the car

I raised these facts in a sales meeting while we were being berated for not selling enough at KMX. They tried to convince me the reports were incorrect.

Carmax doesn't have a no haggle price. They have a WE WILL NOT HAGGLE price. I was going to buy a car from them. My trade-in had a bluebook price of $22, 000. They offered me 12k for it as a trade in. I said sure. Give me 12k for my car and take 10k off of the car I want to buy from you. They said they couldn't. Their prices are fixed by corporate and couldn't negotiate at all. They wanted 25k for the car I wanted. So I said, if I offer you $24, 500 you'd turn it down? They said correct, they'd say no. So I left and went down the street to another dealership, and I got everything I wanted and a better car. I will never go back to them.

Carvana bought my 2016 BMW for $24, 200 (50k miles) and listed it for $26, 900. They have a purchase pending. Carmax only offered me $19k.

when I worked there, they pulled us aside and told us that we might not be having that much work due to the fact that they are having trouble selling cars, and that they would be taking more of certain cars mostly domestic ones, as compared to the foreign ones like the BMWs or the Mercedes just due to the fact that with their markup there were sitting on the lot for so long that they would actually lose money on them
