Depression is a state of low mood and aversion to activity.[2] Classified medically as a mental and behavioral disorder,[3] the experience of depression affects a person's thoughts, behavior, motivation, feelings, and sense of well-being.[4] The core symptom of depression is said to be anhedonia, which refers to loss of interest or a loss of feeling of pleasure in certain activities that usually bring joy to people.[5] Depressed mood is a symptom of some mood disorders such as major depressive disorder or dysthymia;[6] it is a normal temporary reaction to life events, such as the loss of a loved one; and it is also a symptom of some physical diseases and a side effect of some drugs and medical treatments. It may feature sadness, difficulty in thinking and concentration and a significant increase or decrease in appetite and time spent sleeping. People experiencing depression may have feelings of dejection, hopelessness and, sometimes, suicidal thoughts. It can either be short term or long term. Adversity in childhood, such as bereavement, neglect, mental abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, or unequal parental treatment of siblings can contribute to depression in adulthood.[7][8] Childhood physical or sexual abuse in particular significantly correlates with the likelihood of experiencing depression over the victim's lifetime.[9]

Life events and changes that may influence depressed moods include (but are not limited to): childbirth, menopause, financial difficulties, unemployment, stress (such as from work, education, family, living conditions etc.), a medical diagnosis (cancer, HIV, etc.), bullying, loss of a loved one, natural disasters, social isolation, rape, relationship troubles, jealousy, separation, or catastrophic injury.[10][11][12][13][14] Adolescents may be especially prone to experiencing a depressed mood following social rejection, peer pressure, or bullying.[15]

Globally, more than 264 million people of all ages suffer from depression.[16] The global pandemic of COVID-19 has negatively impacted upon many individuals’ mental health, causing levels of depression to surge, reaching devastating heights. A study conducted by the University of Surrey in Autumn 2019 and May/June 2020 looked into the impact of COVID-19 upon young peoples mental health. This study is published in the Journal of Psychiatry Research Report.[17] The study showed a significant rise in depression symptoms and a reduction in overall wellbeing during lockdown (May/June 2020) compared to the previous Autumn (2019). Levels of clinical depression in those surveyed in the study were found to have more than doubled, rising from 14.9 per cent in Autumn 2019 to 34.7 per cent in May/June 2020.[18] This study further emphasises the correlation that certain life events have with developing depression.

I got diagnosed with ADHD since my teenage, used ADHD medications for years. I spent my whole life fighting ADHD. Also suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Not until my wife recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. Never thought I would be saying this about mushrooms.

Depressed ppl can only be understood by someone who experienced depression or someone who is in the same situation . Those normal one's who can understand depressed person are rare to find .

the problem is telling my parents that im depressed will just make them laugh, i already have deslaixy and adding depression will just make me look like a liar.

We all know from experience that the problems in the material world are real and can seem to be overwhelming at times. But when they are handled in the right way, a person can come out on the other side without lasting scars. It is possible to help someone who is experiencing some depression, especially in the earlier stages. Like with almost all conditions, if they are detected early enough, they can often be reversed.

Encouragement is key. Often there is nothing seriously wrong with you. Most likely what is happening is that a person just hasn’t found yet what they are looking for. Real happiness, real purpose and real love do exist. The longing for peace, love and happiness is spiritual. It comes directly from the core of our very being. Just because we have not been able to find what we need yet, we should not give up. So, to feel empty, anxious or depressed sometimes is not the end. To be honest about what one experiences is a lot better than someone who acts superficially and pretends to be happy. If someone actually experiences that something serious is missing, then this is a good thing. It is not a sign of a mental disease.

The fact that countless living beings are not finding the happiness that they are seeking in this world just proves that something is not working out very well. Perhaps they are all looking in the wrong place? If something has not been working, then we need to be intelligent enough to admit this and make the needed changes. If a person continues to look for more, they might find the solution to their condition. It is good to be mindful, the be introspective, to be thoughtful. To consider where is real happiness to be found.

Psychedelics definitely have potential to deal with mental health symptoms like anxiety and depression, I would like to try them again but it's just so hard to source here

My father is an alcoholic he also find a way to fight with my mom, he always makes chaos in the house because of him I never focused on my study and i don't have any job to help my mother, i tried so hard to study but the atmosphere i was getting in my house was so terrible .

Depression and feeling depressed are different things I dont want to talk to anyone as a I wanted I dont feel pleasure as did i dont know why i just hope it end quickly..

I actually envy people who get hypersomnia when depressed. When I'm depressed (which I still am), it's impossible to sleep. The longest I've slept is an hour.

i relate to all of them apart from the sleep and diarrhea ones.

i do not like to open up about my feelings to my parents or friends, so i’m not going to tell them that i may be depressed, they will all just laugh at me.

i am starting to feel better about my self and start to care about myself by doing exercises and drinking smoothies etc.
but i still think about SH sometimes.

Since being separated from my wife and her telling me she is talking to someone already… the past week has been extremely painful and I’ve noticed these physical changes, pains and lack of sleep 😔.
