I remember the first time I tried a Cubano when visiting Florida. The flavors and textures are burned into my brain, and it is my favorite sandwich to this day.

I loved in Florida for eight years and had the opportunity to enjoy these. Now I live in Alaska and every time someone says there’s a restaurant that can make one I except for the disappointment when I try it and it’s nowhere even close. I tried to explain to people how incredibly good these are, and how much money they could make if they would just do them right but no one wants to listen.

Cubanos are my FAVORITE! Although the medianoche (midnight) is even better imo. I'm glad that I can get some really good ones a couple blocks away from me in LA. A hushpuppie is cornbread mix with onions mixed in. It is made using cornmeal, milk, and chopped onions. It's mixed to a thicker consistency scooped into small round balls and deep fried. It is served with fried fish, slaw, and fries. If you ever come to Tennessee check out a captain d's restaurant. They serve battered fried fish, fried shrimp, fried chicken strips, slaw, fried, and other sides (broccoli, fried okra, Mac n cheese). They also have cheesecake for dessert.
